Killeagh GAA Club Weekly News

16 February, 2015

There are now just TWO weeks to go to our fundraising night in Curraheen Park on Saturday night, February 28th 2015. All proceeds from the race night have been ring-fenced for use in the completion of the road from our entrance gates up to our club premises. Great progress has been made over the years in improving and expanding our club facilities and the construction of the new road will greatly enhance both the appearance and access to our fantastic facilities for all members and all visitors to our club. Tickets for the night are priced at a modest €10 for entry for one adult to a night of fun-filled greyhound racing. A steering committee for this fundraiser chaired by JJ Fennelly are currently working very hard to make this night a huge success and patrons can contact JJ on 0866483738, Kieran Scully on 0858037343, Sean Treacy on 0863923131, or Padraig McGrath on 0878575678 to purchase tickets or for further information about other activities on the night. Incidentally, those purchasing a ticket for the night will be automatically entered into a draw for some really valuable prizes like iPhones and All-Ireland Final Tickets so you can still be a winner if, for any reason, you cannot attend the racing. Training for all players continues this week as per text notifications. If, for any reason, a player cannot turn up for a training session it is very important to let your trainer know that you will be absent.

U14 Football

Our U14 footballers had a challenge game against Midleton on Saturday last, Feb 14th in Midleton. Playing a team from a higher grade our lads dug in from the first to the final whistle to give a superb display and really made the home team stand up and take note. After only a couple of training sessions under new coaches the lads took the game to Midleton from the start and for long periods of each half they were the dominant team. Playing to the rules of 'one hop, one solo' they showed that they are more than capable of putting in a match-winning performance and holding their own with any team. They worked very well together as a team unit and there were great individual performances also throughout all areas of the field. Their coaches were absolutely delighted with both the attitude and the way they performed on the field of play. Well done to the Midleton boys for a very sporting game and to the Midleton mentors and referee also. Thanks to all the parents who brought our boys to the game and gave very valuable encouragement from the line. Squad: Robbie Treacy, Owen Cosgrove, Cian McDonald(Capt.), Daniel Lucey, Danny Cunningham, Ryan McCarthy, George Sinclair, David Kelly, Oisin McCarthy, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Richie Landers, Olan Broderick, Paul Delaney, Dara Motherway, Dara O'Connor, Aaron O'Connell, Ciaran O'Rourke, Ciaran Leahy, Brian Murphy,

UNDER 16 FOOTBALL

Youghal 1-10, Killeagh-Ita’s 1-7

It’s never a ‘friendly’ when you play your nearest neighbours and rivals, but the challenge match between Youghal and Killeagh-Ita’s Under 16 footballers in Magner’s Hill on Friday evening last was a beneficial exercise for both teams, one week ahead of their opening league games next weekend. Short three of our

squad, our boys had a very impressive first 15 minutes but gradually Youghal came more into the game and while we held a one point lead at half time, Youghal outscored us in the second half to finish ahead by 1-10 to 1-7. Most impressive in that first half were Jamie Landers at centre back and the half-forwrad line of Richie Long, Sean Walsh and Padraig Leahy. Sean kicked the first three points, two from play, while Richie weighed in with a goal and a point, and Shane Kearney also kicked a fine point, breaking forward from midfield. In the second half Dylan Hogan at full-back manned the defence well, while Olin Hennessy in goals made one great save and kicked out well. Kieran Daly kicked a point while Sean Broderick worked hard at midfield all night. Many positives, and while this Eastern A League looks to be challenging with 10 games, our boys will give it their all. Best of luck in the first game of the season away to Glenville next Saturday February 21st.
