Glenville GAA Club Notes Feburary 15th

Lotto: There was still no winner of the lotto jackpot worth €2100. The winning numbers on the night were 7, 8, 11&32. Small Cash prize winners of €20 were Margaret Mc Coy, Ger Hosford, Chris Connolly, and Hannah Digen. Next week’s jackpot is worth €2200 draw will take place in the Pound Bar.

On the field: The Glenville junior footballers had their first outing of the season a home challenge game against Lisgould both teams played a great game of Gaelic football with some lovely scores coming from both teams. Glenville were excellence in the mid field area with David quirk catching every ball coming his way a long lording ball in the full forward line saw new guy David Denhenny register his first point of the match. Glenville began to dominate the match in every sector of the field and with further scores coming from David Denhenny, JJ Kearney, Niall Griffin and Joe Cullotty helped Glenville to a 0-8 to 0-5 point lead at the interval. Both teams up the tempo in the second half with some great handing passing and lovely counter attacking with some brilliant scores but David Quirk who was playing a blinder of a match produced the goods with a brilliant catch and set up Don Kearney for his first point of the match. Both teams went on to trade points at the other end in a very nip and tuck game. Glenville who were playing a great game of football from start to finish wrapped up the game in style with a Kevin O’Donovan goal. Well done on the victory as Glenville ran out winners on a score line of 1-10 to 0-8 points. The under 14 footballers also had their first outing of the season with an away tie against a strong Cobh side Both teams played a good game of Gaelic football but Cobh who were that bit shaper than us on the day ran out comfortable winners. The lads played a brilliant game from start to finish they never game up. The under 21 footballers began the defence of the East Cork title last Saturday evening in a local derby against bride rovers. Trailing by 4 points after five minutes the lads found it hard to get onto the ball as the rovers were dominating the playing field but the momentum and flow of the game began to fall in favour of the Champions and a pointed free from josh cook had the champions up on running. AS the game progressed Glenville were beginning to find their shape and form and with points coming from Kevin O’Neill, Ben Halbert and Josh Cook had the team’s level and minutes later Brendan Maloney got in for Glenville first goal of the game. The lads stepped

up a gear and took the game to the rovers with some brilliant scores coming from Kevin O’Neill Ben Halbert and Josh cook helped Glenville to a 7 point lead but two late rovers scores at the end of the first half but five points between the teams at the interval 1-8 to 1-3 in favour of the champions. The lads continued their impressive form in the second half and blitzed the rovers right open scorning 0-5 without reply and despite been reduced to 14 players for the last fifteen minutes of the game the lads were just unstoppable and a Dilian O’Donovan goal put the contest to bed. The lads sealed the victory with two final points coming from josh Cook and Brendan Maloney the rover’s only response in the second half was only 0-2 points as the lads ran out 2-15 to 1-5 winners in the end. Well done on the victory a great team effort by every player. The lads will now face Castelgould in the quarter final next Saturday Feb 21st @3:00pm venue TBC. The minor footballers continued their impressive form in the league with a home victory against a poor Midleton side conditions were not good but the lads put on a brilliant display in the first half with some great individual work coming from the half backline scores were limited in the first half as the lads led by 3-4 to 1-3 at the interval. The lads showed why they are a great footballing team blitzed Midleton in the second half scoring 2-6 to a 0-1 in 30 minutes the lads played a brilliant game of Gaelic football as they ran out 5-10 to 1-4 winners well done all played well especially Kenneth Spriggs who put in a man of the match performance. The intermediate footballer’s recorded their first league win of the season trailing by 0-3 to 0-2 at half time in a low scoring game played in terrible conditions the lads put on a brilliant display in the second half to win by 0-3 points in the end on a score line 0f 1-3 to 0-9.
