“The Road Is Long” – 3 Weeks Left To Curraheen Park Fundraiser

There are now just three weeks to go to our fundraising night in Curraheen Park on Saturday night, February 28th 2015. This is going to be a huge undertaking for the club and its members and all proceeds from the race night have been ring-fenced for use in the completion of the road from our entrance gates up to our club premises. While great progress has been made over the years in improving and expanding our club facilities, sadly the road continues to be a blot on the overall development. As this race night is going to be a one-off everybody is being asked to shoulder a piece of the load and help out in any way with the task in hand. Tickets for the night are priced at a modest €10 for entry for one adult to a night of fun-filled greyhound racing. A steering committee for this fundraiser chaired by JJ Fennelly are currently issuing tickets and patrons can contact JJ on 0866483738, Kieran Scully on 0858037343, Sean Treacy on 0863923131, or Padraig McGrath on 0878575678 to purchase tickets or for further information about other activities on the night. Incidentally, those purchasing a ticket for the night will be automatically entered into a draw for some really valuable prizes like iPhones and All-Ireland Final Tickets so you can still be a winner if, for any reason, you cannot attend the racing. Details of Cork SHL fixtures and 1st round draw of Cork SHC are available on website. Details of East Cork League and Championship draws are also available on our website, just click Killeagh GAA in the results window to view. Our senior hurlers had a challenge game against Inniscarra on Tuesday night last (February 3rd) under lights in Killeagh. It was a lively game and a very worthwhile exercise for both management teams to assess their respective players ahead of upcoming opening league fixtures. Despite the recent adverse weather, the sand based pitch was in great condition and helped both teams to serve up a hard fought but entertaining game.

Juvenile Notes:

On Sunday last Páirc Uí Chinnéide GAA complex was rocking from 3.00 to 5.00 p.m., with our Annual Registration Day Juvenile Party and Disco. Tea, coffee and juice was flowing for young and old (nothing stronger) while we concluded with a presentation of gumshields and sliotars to all our young players. The Club Shop did a roaring trade while the SWAP SHOP was a hit for many who got rid of unwanted equipment and/or got something to take away. Paudie Mackey was the lucky boy whose name was pulled out of the hat at the end of the day and thus went home with a brand new Club Hoodie. With almost 200 boys on our register now from Under 6 to Under 18, we’ve lots to look forward to in 2015. This was a good starting point!

Our Under 14 hurlers had their first game of 2015 at home to Carrigtwohill on Saturday afternoon in Páirc Uí Chinnéide and began with a convincing win. Darragh O’Connor, Ben O’Connor, Owen Cosgrove, Olan Broderick, Ryan McCarthy and Daniel Doherty raised green flags, while Robert Sinclair and Richie Landers mopped up loads of ball on either wing as they formed an impressive line with Ryan in the centre. Dara Motherway impressed in goals in the first half and with two points from wing forward in the second, while all 23 players got game time as the new management trio of Fong, Padraig and Ger ‘emptied the bench’. Football takes centre stage for the next few weeks but with hurling championship only 3 months away the hurling will get plenty of time too. Well done boys!

Team: Dara Motherway, Danny Cunningham, Cian McDonald, Paul Delaney, Richie Landers, Ryan McCarthy, Robert Sinclair, Owen Cosgrove, Ben O’Connor, Tommy Noonan, Olan Broderick, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Aaron O’Connell, David Kelly, Darragh O’Connor. Subs: Colin Desmond, Robbie Treacy, Ciaran O’Rourke, Ben Jennings, Padraig Landers, Daniel Doherty, Brian Murphy and Christian Coughlan.

Training for all players continues this week as per text notifications. If, for any reason, a player cannot turn up for a training session it is very important to let your trainer know that you will be absent.
