Victory Social

Our victory social took place last Sat night 7th Feb in the fabulous surrounds of Castlemartyr Resort. Over 220 guests sat down to a delicious meal before a number of awards were handed out.

Brian Lawton, Barry Lawton and Barra O’Tuama were recognised for their roles in successful Cork teams in 2014 bringing Munster and All Ireland titles at senior and intermediate levels. Seamus Lawton and Sean Bowens were also honoured for their roles as selectors with the successful Cork Intermediate hurlers and U21 footballers respectively.

The prestigious Frank McLellan club person of the year went to the hugely popular Cha O’Neill and few could argue with the decision to award it to Cha after guiding our hurlers to the club’s first county title in 50 years.

The players player of the year for 2014 was, for the first time ever a joint award as both Barry Lawton and Adrian Bowens received equal votes among their team-mates.

The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the presentation of medals to the victorious Junior hurlers who brought the county title back to the village after a 50 year wait. Cha O’Neill introduced each member of the panel who was presented with their medals by chairman, Bernard Lawton.

Other guests on the night were Kilkenny hurling legend Eddie Brennan, East Cork Board chairman Dick Fitzgerald and newly appointed Cork County vice-chairperson Tracey Kennedy.

Thanks to the staff and management of the resort who put on a great show and also to John Cashman who was a brilliant MC which added hugely to the occasion.

A great night was had by all and it certainly was a fitting way to celebrate the great success of 2014 with everyone looking forward to the new challenges 2015 will bring at intermediate level.
