Killeagh GAA Notes

19 January, 2015

Club Lotto Results; Our latest lotto draw took place on Tuesday 13th Jan where there was one winner of the €3400 jackpot. Well done to Mr. James Fogarty whose numbers were drawn. The jackpot prize for our next draw will be €2000. It will take place as usual in our clubhouse on Tuesday Jan 20th. Thanks to everyone who supports our weekly lotto draw. “THE ROAD TO SUCCESS” – Major Fundraising Event in Curraheen Park Killeagh GAA Club is to hold a major fundraising night at Curraheen Greyhound track on Saturday night, February 28th 2015. This is going to be a huge undertaking for the club and its members and all proceeds from the race night have been ring-fenced for use in the completion of the road from our entrance gates up to our club premises. While great progress has been made over the years in improving and expanding our club facilities, sadly the road continues to be a blot on the overall development. As this race night is going to be a one-off everybody is being asked to shoulder a piece of the load and help out in any way with the task in hand. Tickets for the night are priced at a modest €10 for entry for one adult to a night of fun-filled greyhound racing. A steering committee for this fundraiser chaired by JJ Fennelly are currently issuing tickets and patrons can contact JJ on 0866483738, Kieran Scully on 0858037343, Sean Treacy on 0863923131, or Padraig McGrath on 0878575678 to purchase tickets or for further information about other activities on the night. Incidentally, those purchasing a ticket for the night will be automatically entered into a draw for some really valuable prizes like iPhones and All-Ireland Final Tickets so you can still be a winner if, for any reason, you cannot attend the racing. Annual Dinner Dance: The club will hold its Annual Dinner Dance in the Garryvoe Hotel on Saturday January 24th 2015 at 8.30pm. For further information and tickets for this great night please contact Ursula Coleman on 0876292646 and Sean Treacy on 0863923131. Club Shop; The Club shop is open on Saturday mornings from 10.30am to 11.30am. Plan a visit to your club shop where you can choose from a wide selection of sports accessories in your club colours. Replica jerseys (all sizes), shorts, training clothing, etc. are available for all ages Please support your club by purchasing from the club shop. Juvenile Notes: Training for all players continues this week as per text notifications. If, for any reason, a player cannot turn up for a training session it is very important to let your trainer know that you will be absent. Our first games will begin on February 1st, (Minor Football) only a few days away now, so all teams from Under 12 to Minor are gearing up! Juvenile Meeting This Week Unfortunately Storm Rachel caused the late cancellation of our planned Juvenile Meeting on Wednesday evening last, so we have rescheduled for this week on Thursday 22nd @ 8.30 p.m. in Killeagh GAA Clubhouse. This meeting, like all our Juvenile meetings, is open to all parents of juvenile players and club members. Please come along where you will get details on our plans for 2015 – on and off the pitch, and you can make your contribution too. Scór na nÓg Tráth na gCeist On Friday night last thirteen teams from around Cork County came to the Eire Og clubhouse in Ovens to take part in the County Final of the Scór na nÓg Tráth na gCeist (Question Time). There were questions on camogie, ladies football, hurling, football, Irish history and geography, world history and geography, and current affairs. 80 questions later, and the Killeagh team had finished a creditable fourth, with 69 correct answers. Just ahead of them in third were Ballyhooly, while Tadhg MacCárthaighs and Aghabullogue were level on 73 and required a tie-break to decide who would represent Cork in the All-Ireland Final. Indeed, it took a further 13 questions (like extra time, penalties and then sudden-death) before the Aghabullogue boys took the honours. Well done to the Killeagh team – Fionn, Barry, Dara and Cathal – who represented their club very well.
