“THE ROAD TO SUCCESS” – Major Fundraising Event in Curraheen Park

Killeagh GAA Club is to hold a major fundraising night at Curraheen Greyhound track on Saturday night, February 28th 2015. This is going to be a huge undertaking for the club and its members and all proceeds from the race night have been ring-fenced for use in the completion of the road from our entrance gates up to our club premises. While great progress has been made over the years in improving and expanding our club facilities, sadly the road continues to be a blot on the overall development. As this race night is going to be a one-off everybody is being asked to shoulder a piece of the load and help out in any way with the task in hand. Tickets for the night are priced at a modest €10 for entry for one adult to a night of fun-filled greyhound racing. A steering committee for this fundraiser chaired by JJ Fennelly are currently issuing tickets and patrons can contact JJ on 0866483738, Kieran Scully on 0858037343, Sean Treacy on 0863923131, or Padraig McGrath on 0878575678 to purchase tickets or for further information about other activities on the night. Incidentally, those purchasing a ticket for the night will be automatically entered into a draw for some really valuable prizes like iPhones and All-Ireland Final Tickets so you can still be a winner if, for any reason, you cannot attend the racing.

Annual Dinner Dance:

The club will hold its Annual Dinner Dance in the Garryvoe Hotel on Saturday January 24th 2015 at 8.30pm. For further information and tickets for this great night please contact Ursula Coleman on 0876292646 and Sean Treacy on 0863923131.

Club Shop;

The Club shop is open on Saturday mornings from 10.30am to 11.30am. Plan a visit to your club shop where you can choose from a wide selection of sports accessories in your club colours. Replica jerseys (all sizes), shorts, training clothing, etc. are available for all ages Please support your club by purchasing from the club shop.

Juvenile Notes:

The Annual Killeagh-Ita’s Fundraising Table Quiz was held in The Old Thatch on Monday December 29th 2014. With the Christmas Spirit still permeating the air, the atmosphere was jovial as quizmaster Ted O’Brien threw in the ball for the 27 teams who got in before the “House Full” sign had to be erected. Eighty questions later, many of which had the 100+ participants scratching their head in bewilderment and attempting to concoct a possible reasonable answer, it was the local men Denis McDonald, Tom Daly, Brian Motherway and Michael Hennessy who edged out Colm Crowley’s team by 58 points to 57 to claim the honours for 2014. Many spot prizes found new homes after the customary raffle, while the complimentary platters of food provided by the Old Thatch staff was most welcome to break the stress of the quiz after 5 rounds! Thank you to everyone who participated and a big thank you to Tim O’Connell, Physical Therapist, Midleton, who sponsored first prize. In total, €1640 was raised for the Juvenile Club which will go a long way towards purchasing much-needed footballs, sliotars, cones, water bottles, nets etc. for the coming season. Thanks to all those who helped on the night in correcting, collecting, selling and overseeing, and to those who helped in advance and afterwards with venue preparation. Finally, thanks once again to Ted who continues to throw curve-balls at his unsuspecting audience –

although some of the audience delight in this form of mental torture! He’s already thinking of his December 2015 questions!

It’s not yet halfway through January yet most of our Juvenile Teams are back into training. Our minor team, under Colm Crowley’s guidance, have begun indoor training, while the Under 16s and Under 14s have also begun their pre-season work. Under 12s begin their work this week, while the younger teams will be planning their campaigns in the coming weeks. What will 2015 bring?
