JB Football Semi Final

Castlelyons 1-12   Youghal   1-11

Castlelyons qualified for the East Cork JB Football final when we defeated Youghal by 1 point in a nail biting finish in Killeagh on Sunday last. What turned out to be a great game of football had everything with great commitment, great scores and 2 late goals to see the lead change from one team to the other with Castlelyons winning by 1 point. We played with the aid of the breeze in the first half and dominated possession for the first 20 mins where we led by 6 points to 2  with scores from R Bransfield and A Spillane. Youghal got back into the game in the last 10 mins to level the match at 6 points each until A O Sullivan scored a point with the last play of the half to leave us leading 0-07 to 0-06 at half time. A Spillane had the first point of the second half but Youghal then got on a roll and scored the next 3 points to lead by 2 with 15 mins left. S O Sullivan got our next point following great work by E Maye and C Barry and when T Carroll played a ball into A O Regan who gave a great pass to A O Sullivan for a point the teams were now level again with 5 mins left. R Fenton scored a good point from the left wing to give us a 1 point lead but Youghal broke downfield from the kickout and scored a goal to take a 2 point lead with time almost up. We were now into added time when B Fitzgerald caught the kickout and passed to S Moroney who fed R Bransfield coming through the middle who soloed through the Youghal defence and scored a great goal. Youghal got 1 more play but Castlelyons held out for a famous victory . This was a great win by all involved and after losing out to Youghal by 1 point in 2 hurling championship matches in the past 12 months it was great to pull off this win.We now qualify for the final which is due to be played next weekend against Bride Rovers.

East Cork Scór na nÓg.

The Scór na nÓg Finals will be held at Lisgoold Hall On Friday night the 14th November at 7.30pm. The promotion of Scór at adult and juvenile plays an important part in keeping our culture and heritage alive and well. Juveniles and adults in our Club are afforded the opportunity to interact with the best of Irish culture.

Scór can really add to the overall value of the Club unit as people can take part in music, song and dance that may not be able to take part in the sporting side of our games. So to club officers, team managers and, likewise camogie this is your opportunity to promote greater interest in the Club among the community.

Scór is commencing this year with the Scór na nÓg Competition (13 years to Under 17 in 2015). It would be great if some teens made themselves available for this competition so please contact Kieran McGann at 0867773100.
