Juvenile Notes:
Under 15 Hurling Blitz A Good Preparation for 2015
It may have been the final event of 2014, and only the second Under 15 day out we’ve had this year, but last Saturday’s 4-team Under 15 hurling blitz held in Cobh could yet prove to be significant, not for the result on the day, but as the first step on the journey of the Under 16 team of 2015 under the new management of Richard Walsh and Richie Brennan. The tight pitches, smaller goals, and the 12-a-side short games made this blitz very competitive, with little between all four teams – ourselves, Kiltha Óg, Lisgoold and hosts Cobh. We were narrowly defeated by Cobh (1-5 to 1-1, level at full time) and Lisgoold (1-5 to 0-6) in our first two games (both of which we could have won), which put us into the Plate Final against our neighbours Kiltha Óg. While we didn’t have any luck converting our chances in the first two games, we finally clicked in front of goals in the longer final (30 minutes as opposed to 20) and won convincingly in the end by 5-7 to 1-3. Padraig Leahy, Sean Walsh, Richie Long and Jamie Clifford did the bulk of our scoring, while captain Keane Kelly Budds, Shane Kearney and Jamie Landers were very effective in the half-back /midfield area and Dylan Hogan and Daniel Hickey kept things tight further back. Well done boys – time to start thinking ahead with a little hope and optimism.
Panel: Fionn McDonnell, Dylan Hogan, Daniel Hickey, Darragh Geary, Jamie Landers, Shane Kearney, Keane Kelly Budds, Sean Walsh, Richie Long, Adrian Galvin, Padraig Leahy, Jamie Clifford, Liam McCarthy, Barry Motherway, James Kent and Olin Hennessy.

Under 13s wrap up with a win
Our Under 13 hurlers finished off their season with an entertaining game under lights in Killeagh on Friday evening last against our neighbours Kiltha Og. With little bar bragging rights at stake, it gave our management (Richie and Michael) an opportunity to give game time to all Under 13 boys, leaving our Under 12 boys on the sideline initially. A 1-8 to 0-5 win was hard-earned, and it required stout defending and saves from Darragh O’Connor, Cian McDonald, Paul Delaney and the Sinclairs, Robert and Georger, to keep a clean sheet. At the other end, Olan Broderick, Owen Cosgrove, Ben O’Connor and Richie Landers were our scorers. Well done everyone! Thanks again to reiteoir Paudie Kearney for keeping the game flowing without incident from start to finish.
Team: Darragh O’Connor, George Sinclair, Cian McDonald, Paul Delaney, Danny Cunningham, Ryan McCarthy, Robert Sinclair, Richie Landers, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Owen Cosgrove, Olan Broderick, Dara Motherway, David Kelly, Olan Coleman, Aaron O’Connell, Tommy Noonan, Robbie Treacy, Ben O’Connor, Ciaran Leahy.
