Erins Own 1.13 Cloyne 0.9

Erins Own qualified for the quarter final of the Junior A Hurling Championship with a hard earned win over Cloyne in Lisgoold yesterday. The sides were evenly matched in the opening quarter of the game but once the Erins Own defence got on top their forwards responded with some fine scores and a 5 point margin was opened up by half time. Erins Own led on a score of 0.9 to 0.4. The conditions deteriorated in the second half with torrential downpours which made conditions difficult for the players but with Niall Scanlon, Tony Hickey and Jack Sheehan excelling in defence Erins Own kept the momentum going and kept their noses in front. The score that finally won the game came with ten minutes remaining when good work by Cathal O Mahony set Andrew Power up for a well taken goal. This score opened up a six point margin for the first time in the game and the victory was secured by a late point by Patrick Walsh. Our opponents in the quarter final are Killeagh.
