Castlelyons 2-19   Newcestown 1-22

Castlelyons and Newcestown played Round 10 of the Intermediate hurling league on Sunday morning in Newcestown. Even though we were short on numbers a great effort was put in by all that played and we were very unlucky not to take all the points which we needed to avoid relegation from Division 1 of the Intermediate league. A Spillane scored our first 3 points to give us a good start and with more points from R Fenton and J Barry and a goal from A Spillane we were leading by 1-05 to 1-02 after 15 mins. C Spillane ,J Barry and A Fenton added more points as both sides exchanged scores in a very fast free flowing game. A Spillane got in for a second goal when he got to the rebound of a 21 yard free from A Fenton that was saved by the Newcestown goalkeeper and the sides went in level at halftime 2-09 to 1-12. The second half was played out in the same fashion with both sides going for scores at every opportunity and with never more than 2 points between the sides this was a great contest. A Spillane , D Lawlor ,J Barry, T Carroll and A Fenton all had points in this half as the sides finished level 2-19 to 1-22 after 60 mins of great hurling. Well done to everyone that played  with fantastic effort and commitment being shown by all.
