Division One Football League

Last Sunday were scheduled to play Fr O'Neills in our last JFL Division one game for the season, Fr ONeill's gave a walkover and thus we finished in first place with six wins and two defeats. This means we are playing the final against Glenbower Rovers which is due to fixed in the coming weeks.

U12 Blitz

It was a busy week for our U12 hurling squad with the usual training sessions, and two hurling tournaments over the weekend. First up was the “Colman Dillion U12 Tournament” at Erins Own grounds in Caherlag on Saturday morning. Eight clubs in total participating, with all clubs being those who took part 50 years ago in the East Cork Junior A Hurling championship, when the Erins Own club was founded. First up for our young blues were our Midleton neighbours (eventual winners), where it was a tight affair up to half time but the Midleton boys pulled away in the second half. Next up were Erins Own, which proved to be a cracking game of hurling, with the Lisgoold boys up by two points at half time, and it ended up all square at the final whistle. Our final group game was against Carrig Na Bhfear, were the young blues really got into their stride and put in an impressive display of hurling to take the victory. It was an anxious wait to see if we qualified for the Shield final but we narrowly missed out on scoring difference by three points. Thanks to Erins Own for the invitation, and for their great hospitality shown to all our players, mentors & supporters.

Early hop again for all the U12’s (and parents) on Sunday morning, destination Fermoy, for the “Tom McCarthy Perpetual U12 Hurling Tournament”. Eight clubs again participating and first up for the Lisgoold boys were St. Mary’s from Clonmel (eventual winners), which was a tight affair right to the end, with both teams giving an exhibition of hooking, blocking, tackling and some fine scores. Sadly for Lisgoold we came up just short in the end against the Tipp boys.  Next game was against Mallow which ebbed and flowed right to the final whistle with the North Cork boys edging it by two late goals. We bowed out on a high with our final game, which was another cracking game against Tramore. Our lads were fired up for this one, and gave it their all and were not to be denied the victory. Our sincere thanks to Fermoy GAA for the invitation, and their hospitality shown to all our players, mentors & supporters.

The young blues put in a fabulous effort over the weekend, gave it their all on both days, and a big Thank You to each and every one of you for your efforts and brilliant attitude.
