Narrow defeat for JB Hurlers

JB Hurling Championship

Castlelyons 1-16  Youghal 2-14

Castlelyons took on Youghal in the quarter final of the East Cork JB Hurling championship on Sunday morning last in Dungourney. This was a tough physical match with both sides holding the lead on different occasions but unfortunately we came out on the wrong side of a one point defeat. Playing with the aid of a strong breeze we started slow and Youghal led after 5 mins on a score of 1-01 to 0-01 with C Cotter getting the first point for Castlelyons. Points from R Feeney, Ml Spillane and T McCarthy leveled the match and from here to half time there was never more than one point between the sides. M Spillane was unerring from frees and we also had the bonus of a long range free that went through the Youghal goalkeepers hand for a Castlelyons goal. J Barry had our last point of the half that left us leading at half time by 1-09 to 1-08. Youghal with the aid of the breeze in the second half came at us from the start and with a goal and a point in the first 10 mins they went into a 2 point lead. However we defended very well with great performances from D Sexton ,S Fenton and S Cotter in our half back line we held firm and with points from R Feeney, M Spillane, D Sexton and J Barry there was still only 2 points between the sides as we entered added time. In those frantic last few minutes we tried our best for a goal but Youghal held out and won on a score of 2-14 to 1-16.  Thanks to everyone involved , management and players, for a great performance and for your commitment throughout the year.
