Even though we started Saturday nights game v Erins Own with wind advantage it was Erin’s Own that opened the scoring with a point from play and a long range pointed free from their keeper. James Nyhan opened our account with a point from the sideline following a quickly taken sideline cut. Erin’s Own’s response was swift with a point from their centre forward. James Nyhan and Brian O’Shea scored points from frees which were matched by 2 of the same from Erin’s Own.
We then enjoyed a purple patch with 2 points from play by James added to a pointed 65 and a point from play from Ciaran Mullins.Erins Own scored the next 2 points to levels the scores at 7 points each with 10 minutes to go to the break.
The sides then swapped points before a speculative lob towards our goal deceived our keeper to end up in the net. David Ring with a point on his introduction left us 2 points in arrears at the break 1.08 to 9 points.
Erin’s Own opened the second half ‘s scoring with a point from play and it took us 9 minutes to register our first score when David Ring scored a point from a free.
A point from Ciaran and from sub Mike Naughton tied the scores yet again. The next 4 points were shared and when James Nyhan won an excellent free converted by David we were 1 point to the good entering the last 10 minutes.
David Jermyn thundered into the game winning great ball in the air and when he pointed to put us 2 ahead things were looking good. Erin’s Own to their credit leveled the game again with 2 points from play, David Ring with a free put us ahead and when their keeper pointed his 3rd free of the evening to level matters a replay was looking likely. Despite defending very well the ball broke to the Erin’s Own centre back who pointed from distance to give them the lead and despite one last attack we couldn’t get the equalizing score.
Best on the night were Dermot Power, James Nyhan and David Jermyn.

All roads lead to Pairc Ui Rinn on next Saturday night 6th Sept at 8pm as we take on championship favorites Ballinhassig in the quarterfinals of the Premier Intermediate championship. The team have prepared very well and if they can replicate the display of the victory over Bandon they have every chance of progressing to the semi finals.

The club would like to express its sympathy to the family of David Cahill of Kilva who passed away over the weekend. David is father of David Jnr the current St Colman’s Chairman and of Paul a Junior-hurling selector and was also a very ardent Cloyne GAA supporter.
