Autumn Festival

Due to the unprecedented weather conditions last Sunday the festival was cancelled. It is now being re-scheduled for this weekend, Please check locally for details, There are a few tickets for the ‘poo in the pitch’ still available for purchase so still time to enter..

Lisgoold GAA will be hosting their Autumn festival this weekend at the pitch, we hope all patrons will come and support what is a crucial fund-raiser for the club, where the main attraction is the ‘Poo in the Pitch’. An event in where the lucky winner can receive a €500 prize!! We divide our pitch into squares, and then sell these squares; each square will be given to a ticket holder via a random draw. We then release the cow, belonging to a local dairy farmer into the field, and wherever she “completes her job", that squares owner will win a prize of €500!! This is your only chance to get pooed on and get a prize for it! A Ticket costs only €5, for more information contact either Mike (087) 9131673 or Eoin (087) 4190840

JCHC Quarter-final Replay

Lisgoold 1-8 (11)
Russell Rovers 1-11 (14)
At Shanagarry
20th August 2014

The second team could count themselves as extremely unlucky not to come out on top in this championship clash last Wednesday night. Unlike the first day out It wasn’t a tit for tat battle for the first half, we saw rovers dominate proceedings and with our full back line of John, Donal & Moss under extreme pressure (but coping well), it seemed we were looking at hiding. Rovers got the edge as they opened the scoring with some lovely scores. We were quick to reply with some great scores by Ciaran & Finbarr. There were a few hairy moments in front of goal but our full back line of John, Donal & Moss coupled with the evergreen Barry Ahern between the sticks were holding well. However Russell Rovers were the first to raise a green flag themselves after long ball managed to trickle in. In fact, due to good fortune Lisgoold should consider themselves lucky not to be more behind if it wasn’t for the full back line and our goalie who saw more than enough, their fair share of ball in the first half. Apart from that quartet, John McCarthy, Dave Barry were best of what was an all-out of sorts Lisgoold team. At half-time though we were behind, it was 1-8 to 0-3.

The second half we saw a mixture of the Lisgoold forwards waking up and Russell Rovers strangely being subdued. The looked to be coasting when they hit three frees to our one after 39 minutes (1-11 to 0-4), however a superb disciplined display by our backs ensured no more scores were conceded for the remainder of this game. We took full advantage of this, reeling three lovely scores and now being seven points behind with ten minutes left (1-11 to 0-7). Bill Whelan, Darragh Fleming, Kevin O’Shea, the outstanding John McCarthy had now rovers on the rack as we were beginning to get on top. Cian Scannell raised hopes by getting a green flag with eight minutes left and suddenly all the procession, momentum and play was going Lisgoold’s way. In fact, we spurned several good chances to close the gap further, which might have produced a different result, there was only one more point added but it was too little too late. Russell Rovers deserve their win and we wish them the best later on in this competition. As for our lads, they did themselves proud but had not been for a poor first half they might have gone a bit further.
