Premier Intermediate Championship.
The old adage that goals win games certainly rang true on Saturday night last as we moved into the quarter final of the championship where we will meet competition favourites Ballinhassig.
Recovering from a slow start we scored 3 excellent goals at vital stages of the first half to reach the short whistle 6 points to the good.
Our opening score was a fine Chris Smith point from play following good work from Paudie O’Sullivan who chased a seemingly lost cause into the corner. Bandon created an overlap around the middle of the field to manufacture a goal their first score of the game, this was followed by a point from the same player and the quick moving full forward line had us in a spot of bother at this stage.
Improved play around the middle of the field and the rejigging of our full back line saw us settle down. Keith Dennehy with a great point from play began a fight back and when Keith played in Colm O’Sullivan with a lovely pass to goal high into the net we were up and running. The hardworking Paul O’Sullivan set up Paudie for a point to which he added another shortly after.Cloynes ill discipline and a finicky referee kept Bandon in touch with their accurate free taker adding 5 points from frees to add  to his earlier fine effort from play. We continued to pile on the pressure with a point from Colm following a fine delivery from the half back line as well as a Dillon Cahill point set up by a strong burst from defence by young Stevie Beausang(who was to go on to  have a fine game).Keith score a great goal when a ground stroke from Paudie found his way to him 21 yards from goal, an excellent pick up saw him finish with aplomb.
Diarmuid converted a difficult 21 yard free from the touchline to keep the scoreboard ticking over and the same player played in Dillon Cahill with a great pass to goal to finish the half’s scoring with us 3.07 to 1.07 ahead.
Bandon to their credit upped the ante at the start of the second half and with the aforementioned ill discipline giving their accurate free taker plenty of opportunities to reduce the deficit they began to whittle away our lead.
The gap had been reduced to 2 points before Chris lifted the siege with a fine point from distance and when Diarmuid goaled soon after when he finished a long Domhnall O’Sulllivan delivery to the net we had broken the Bandon resistance.
The score of the game followed when a first time pull from Domhnall to Diarmuid was played in front of Paudie and a delightful touch and turn had the ball between the posts. On the puck out Keith registered his second point of the day.Bandons only response was a number of frees and a point from play by their centre back, the goal they needed never looked like coming due in the main to a thundering last 15 minutes from full back Killian Cronin who plucked numerous balls from the sky. Young substitute Ian Cahill enhanced his reputation with a point from the sideline shortly after his arrival to which Paudie added another when latching onto a breaking ball.
The scoring and the game now began to peter out and 2 Diarmuid frees brought the curtain down on a fine performance albeit with a bit of work to do as well.
