Cobh Gaa – VHI Cúl Camp 2009

The annual summer Gaa camp went ahead at Páirc Uí Chonaill from July 6thto 10th. This year the camp was manned by all Cobh coaches with the club bringing in Neilly O’ Keeffe to oversee matters and give guidance to the coaches as the week went on. The coaches were very professional in their approach throughout the week and this was reflected in the approach taken by the youngsters who attended the camp.

Jim Cronin was organiser in chief of the VHI Cúl camp again this year and did a tremendous job in ensuring each of the 100 children was well looked after all week. All were delighted with the full set of playing gear which they received.

On Thursday rising star of Cork hurling and one of the Sars heroes from last years county final, Tadhg Óg Murphy arrived to sign jerseys and hurleys. Tadhg Óg was great with our young Gaels and spent some time with oldest group passing on words of encouragement. The lads were amazed to here that Tadhg Ógs first time to play with Cork at any level was this year as a senior hurler and Tadhg Óg encouraged all to train hard and listen to their coaches as they progress up through the ranks.

Friday was the first day of rain for the week but the coaches had their homework done and the word searches, quizzes, and colouring sheets were quickly dished out, with Jim also stepping up to the mark with a few songs to raise the spirits. Thankfully the weather cleared around lunchtime and the camp was fittingly able to finish on a high note with all participants out on the field demonstrating their skills.
