Minor Football

Castlelyons 3-08  St Vincents 2-12

Castlelyons played St Vincents in the first round of the Minor Football Championship in Rathcormac on Thursday evening last. S Moroney had the first score of the match when he pointed after 5 mins but for the next quarter it was all St Vincents who scored 5 points in a row. B Murphy replied with a point and a goal from a well taken penalty for Castlelyons to level the match and N O Leary had our last point to leave St Vincents leading by 1 point at half time. St Vincents dominated the first quarter of the second half and scored 2 goals and 4 points in this period with S Moroney, N O Leary and K O Leary replying with points for Castlelyons. S Moroney gave us hope when he got through for a well taken goal with 5 mins to go to leave 4 points between the teams and when J O Leary goaled following good work by B Murphy there was 1 point between the sides but St Vincents held on to win by 2-12 to 3-08. A great performance full of commitment by all that played.

PI Hurling

Castlelyons  3-13  Meelin  3-14

Castlelyons and Meelin played round 8 of the PI Hurling league in Meelin on Sunday  last. On a dry bright morning this resulted in a fast free flowing game with Meelin edging it in the last minute. R Feeney had our first score in the 1st minute and when A Fenton pointed a 65 we were 2 points up after 5 minutes. Meelin leveled the match shortly after and for the next 15 minutes they dominated, scoring 2-05, with R Feeney ,R O Regan and A Fenton replying for Castlelyons to leave Meelin leading at half time by 2-07 to 0-07. Castlelyons upped their game in the second half and with points from S Moroney and R Bransfield we reduced their lead. R Bransfield and D Tobin combined to score a very well worked goal and when A Fenton scored 2 goals in the next 5 mins we were 3 points ahead with 5 mins to play. However we could not hold on to the lead as Meelin got in for a goal to level the game and they went on to win with a point from a free in the last minute. A disappointing result but some very good performances and great effort by all that played. Our PIH Championship match against Ballyhea if fixed for Kilworth on August 23rd @ 6.15 pm with this match now the main focus for this panel.
