News

A busy week for club as the Junior B Hurlers had their shot at the Championship, our minor hurlers as they locked horns with Cloyne and our Under 12's played out a thriller in the league final. Whilst all roads will lead to Thurles this Saturday night as Galway will clash with cork, and lets hope it will be a repeat performance (and result!!!) of last year's encounter. And while the men our preparing for that clash the camogie team defeated Kilkenny by 4 points, (from this writers point of view lets hope this trend will continue in the hurling!!!) to set-up what will be a pulsating tie in the last round of the group stage against Tipperary, with the tipp ladies needing a win to stay in it. Best of to the 'Rebelettes' in this encounter, which is due to be played on the 1stof August.

MHL July 6th

Lisgoold 1-15 (18)

Cloyne 3-11 (20)

Our Minors were very unlucky to come out of the wrong of this one point defeat. Playing with great spirit and passion, our lads put it up to the men from Cloyne who are competing at A grade this year. With the likes of John Cronin, Rob Smart and Alan Conroy playing well, our lads can be fairly confident of produce the goods in the championship which is due to be played later this month. Lisgoold will have be tighter at the back as Luke Cahill did an awful amount of damage to the Lisgoold challenge and although considering Cloyne are at A grade this year, for Lisgoold to progress at the B championship they must be at full concentration for the hour. It was a tough hard game and hopefully it will stand to our boys come championship. We would like to wish Killian Kingston a speed recovery in the injury he picked up during the game. The referee was Jim Daly of the Youghal GAA club. Handled the game superbly.

JBHC July 8th

Lisgoold 2-6 (12)

Carrigtwohill 6-15 (33)

Our second string crashed out of this years championship in very disappointing fashion. Playing against what was to be fair a very experienced Carrigtwohill side. Carrig dominated the game from start to finish as our lads for one reason or another just couldn't click into gear as Stephen kidney was doing severe damage. Only for likes of battle hardened Finbarr Brosnan and youngsters Keith Flynn and Ronan stack the scoreline would be a lot worse at half-time. Lisgoold battled away in the second half with Jamie woods the shining light throughout the hour with some good scores. However kidney was the man of the moment and he sealed his hat-trick in the second half and Carrig just kept dominating throughout the game. Our lads battled bravely but it just didn't happen on the day. The have two league games left bride rovers at home which was played last Monday night, and Carrrignavar away which has yet to be fixed.

U12 Hurling League Final(AET)

Lisgoold 4-10 [22]

Castlelyons 5-7 [22]

Our under 12 hurlers played out a thriller against Castlelyons last Sunday night in this U-12 league final. Playing with a great passion, hunger and determination our youngsters should consider themselves very unlucky not to have won title after an adsorbing 80 minute contest, also the fact that they were at one stage 9 points down, just shows the never say die attitude that is in this team. With the likes of Sean Nagle, Jack Ryan, Ryan Hogan, Ciarán O' Sé and Darragh Fleming coming up to the plate, Lisgoold were playing some of the best hurling all year, to be honest from 1 to 15 and even the substitutes that were used were outstanding. However, it would be a shame if they were to leave this one behind, so were asking everyone to come and support this great squad of players on this Friday night at 7pm in Castlelyons for the replay. Referee was the experienced Niall Barrett of Carrigtwohill – as usual, did a fine job.
