Golf Society:
Our 18th annual Golf Classic got underway on Thursday July 10th and came to a conclusion on Saturday evening July 12th with the presentation of prizes in West Waterford Golf Club, Dungarvan. Ray Rochford, Chairman of the Classic Committee got the prize-giving underway by thanking most sincerely all those who had contributed in any way into making this classic such a successful one. The presentation of prizes was led by Killeagh GAA Club Chairman, Mr. Kieran Scully and was helped by West Waterford Club Lady Captain, Margaret O’Sullivan and by West Waterford Club Gents Captain, Bertie Hallahan. We had 3 major sponsors in Fennelly Fuels, Burgess Service Station and Abbeylands Nursing Home this year and we thank Mr. JJ Fennelly and Mr. James Rochford  for this much needed sponsorship. The course and facilities at West Waterford were excellent to cope with the record numbers taking part. We would like to thank Mr. Austin Spratt and all his staff at West Waterford for their help and efforts this year to make this classic such a success. There was a record 147 teams taking part this year and the following were the major prize winners: Overall winners were East Cork Physiotherapy and Acupuncture Clinic with a score of 103 points, in second place was Youghal Cabs with a score of 98 points and in third place was Liam Leahy et al with a score of 97 points. Best gross was Déise Golf Shop with a nett score of 69 points. Best ladies team was Ann Rochfords team with a score of 86 points. Best non-GUI team was Coiste Coiluna with a score of 99 points. The full list of all 35 prize winners will appear on our website, www.killeaghgaa.org this coming week. Once again thanks to everyone who helped out this year and well done to Ray and his team of volunteers who work so hard each year on the Golf Classic.
