Junior Hurling League Division 1
Lisgoold 5-17 (32)
Ballyhooly 1-15 (18)
At Ballyhooly
1st July 2014

A good result for our juniors, as they raced to a fourteen point win in a very efficient and controlled manner. John Cronin, Charles Smart, Eoin O’Sullivan and Ciaran O’Shea were some of the good performers for Lisgoold. A lapse of concentration at the start of the first half allowed the vistors to score a quick goal but John Cronin hit form with a few goals, which in reality settled the issue. Although one must say that Lisgoold might have their eye on the second round encounter with Bride Rovers it was still a very good performance to watch. However league and championship are two different modes, hopefully we can keep this up for championship. In this encounter, we deserved the two points on offer. With one game to go it is turning out to be a straight shootout between us and Russell Rovers for a league semi-final berth with Dungourney.

Junior A Hurling Championship Second Round
Lisgoold 1-23 (26)
Bride Rovers 0-16 (16)
At Riverstown
8th July 2014

A great result for our juniors, as they soared to a ten point win against a determined and wily rathcormac side, and a third round clash against Erins Own. They played in a very spirited and determined manner in glorious sunshine. We had an excellent start with Rob Smart opening the scoring; however we were in for a battle as the rovers upped their game. The majority of the first half was a shootout between John Cashman and William Finnegan as a flawless display of free taking by both players. The rovers thanks to Sean Ryan, Stephen Boyce, Jerome O’Driscoll and Brendan O’Driscoll ensured we were put to the pin of our collar for this match. Our defence of Jerry, Eoin, Peter and Cathal were holding firm. With Johnsey constantly threatening and scoring some lovely points, we were doing fine. In the 23rd minute we arguably saw the move of the match, a combination of Eoin and Charles saw a long range ball to Cashman who fed Bryan O’Sullivan who in turn fed a super ball to Jamie for a minor. Finnegan and Cashman both struck points again, for the remainder of the half; we were ahead 0-12 to 0-10. So good so far.

In the second half though we saw Richie Cahill, Sean O’Brien, Will Finnegan and Jason Mannix up their game considerably for the Rovers, as the quartet were the main reason the rovers kept in touch. We saw some super play from Bryan O’Sullivan, Kieran Barry (who started the half with an excellent score), Cathal and John Cashman. The turning point of this encounter came in the 42nd minute with the score at 0-15 to 0-13 to Lisgoold, Bride rovers had a man sent off, this led to the Rovers raising their spirits (as they always do) and Lisgoold with changing their plan as they had an extra man. We saw John Cashman making the difference as he put over some super points from very difficult angles. However with eleven minutes to go, we saw complete closure of this match as Bride Rovers had another man sent off for a second yellow card offence. From the resulting free we opened a four point gap (0-18 to 0-14) and began to close out the game. John Cronin had a great chance to seal the deal with a green flag in the 59th minute but made a complete mess of it, he made up for this as he set-up Bryan O’Sullivan who got a major, which was very well deserved after a very industrious hour by him.

It wasn’t a bad performance and with the Erins Own coming up in the next week or so. We just have to get keep this momentum going and take the challenge head on, as a club we must make sure we all get behind them as they make their way to the third round.
