Intermediate Football;
Our 4 year sojourn in the Intermediate grade is hanging by a thread after defeat to Youghal on Saturday night last condemned us to a relegation final against Glanworth.It was probably our poorest performance over the last 4 years where we carried no goal threat only scored 3 points from play and crucially missed too many score able frees at critical times in the match. We opened the scoring from a Diarmuid O’Sullivan free (the only time we have led in our 3 championship matches to date).Youghal equalised with a free and David Jermyn restored our lead with a point when he showed great persistence to force his way in along the end line to score.Youghal then took over in the scoring stakes as they scored 1.03 without reply, the goal a quickly taken free to open up a 5 point lead. A fisted Youghal point sandwiched between 2 Sully efforts from play and from a free left us behind 1.05 to 4points at the half time whistle.
We were quickly out of the blocks at the start of the second half where a Sully free and a 45 reduced the gap to 2.Youghals reply was a pointed free from a tight angle and when Ciaran Mullins pointed from play and another Sully free we were only 1 point in arrears and it was game on. The next score was crucial and unfortunately it went to Youghal as they scored a goal against the run of play after we lost possession cheaply in our half forward line.2 Youghal points and a Sully free had the margin at 4 points entering the final 10 minutes but another breakaway goal and 2 points from play from Youghal finished the scoring and put a somewhat unfair look on the scoreboard 3.10 to 10 points.
It was a night that nothing went right but we have to try and lift ourselves for one last effort against Glanworth to hold on to our Intermediate status.
