Cork County Minor Board Preview
The second round of the Ulster Bank Co Premier Championships gets into full swing during the coming with a number of interesting games down for decision.
This evening Caherlag is the venue for the meeting of Carrigtwohill and Na Piarsaigh in the Ulster Bank Co Premier 1 Minor Football Championship. This promises to be a close encounter as both sides lost narrowly in their opening rounds to Castlehaven and St Michaels respectively and as this is their last chance of advancement neither side will want to lose out at this stage. In the same competition St Finbarrs and Ballincollig travel to Brinny on tomorrow evening in their quest of advancement. In their opening round St Finbarrs were defeated by Nemo Rngs and they will be all out to advance on this occasion. However Ballincollig who lost out to Mallow in their opener will have similar ideas and nothing would pleas them more than putting one over on their more fancied opponents.
There are three games down for decision in the Ulster Bank Co Premier 2 Minor Football Championship this week. Youghal and Eire Og meet in Carrigtwohill this evening at 7.15 where Eire Og will be boosted by the fact that last week they took the honours in their section in the Non-Exam League, when they had an exciting victory over Clyda Rvs, and this will give them immense confidence but this is championship football and you can be sure that Youghal will have their own agenda and they will be all out to advance on this occasion.
Tomorrow evening Glanmire and Kinsale meet in Passage where both sides will be eager to advance at the second time of asking while on Tuesday Brian Dillons and Fr O’Neills will battle it out for a place in the third round in Caherlag.
The big hurling game of the week is in Fermoy on Tuesday evening where Midleton and Fermoy clash in the Ulster Bank Co Premier 1 Minor Hurling Championship. This game has all the credentials of being a cracking contest between two sides that are well capable of producing some top class entertainment. In their opening round Midleton lost out by the bare minimum to St Finbarrs while Glen Rvs took the defending champions, Sarsfields, to extra time before being defeated 2-11 to 3-13 after a late surge by the holders. Both sides were a little disappointed by these results and as this is the last chance of redeeming themselves you can be sure that it will be all systems go from the throw-in with only a puck of the ball dividing the sides at the final whistle.
As usual there is a varied program of Ulster Bank Co Premier League games pencilled in for the coming week and as we are now entering the stage were points are important to those teams that are in line for places in the knock-out stages some exciting contests are in prospect.
