Intermediate Football Championship.
The concession of three first half goals against a fast moving skilful Fermoy side ultimately proved our downfall in the first round of this year’s Intermediate football championship.
All three goals were preventable; the first after only 25 seconds when we lost possession cheaply, the second was a shot for a point that rebounded into the arms of the Fermoy forward from the crossbar and the third following a mix up in our defence.
In saying all that Fermoy were by far the dominant side in the first half and we struggled to keep pace with their fluent attacks, they also kicked lovely points from all angles and were full value for their half time lead of 3.07 to 3 points.
Our point scorers were 2 from play by Paul O’Sullivan and a Diarmuid O’Sullivan free and we also had a glorious chance of a goal just sent wide by Brian Fleming following an excellent move.
With a little more than pride to play for in the second half we began it well with a higher level of intensity in our play. High balls into our full forward line were beginning to pay dividends and we scored the first two points of the half from Diarmuid.Fermoy weathered the storm and scored the next three points one of them from their full back who had ventured forward. We continued to create goal chances a great Colm O’Sullivan coming back into play off a post and pointed by Brian Fleming. Eoin O’Sullivan, Colm O’Sullivan and a Diarmuid free brought our scoring to a close and an end to a disappointing outing the final score Fermoy 3.12 Cloyne 9 points.
The positives are a number of young players got a taste of what is needed to perform at this level and our second half performance gives us something to build on as we head into round 2 against the losers of Mitchelstown and Kildorrery.

Junior B League;
We travelled to Rostellan on Tuesday 22nd April to take on the locals in a Division 3 football league game. We fielded a strong side with the championship only around the corner and won convincingly 2.11 to 2pts against an experienced albeit Aghada’s 3rd league team.
Chris Smith opened the scoring with 2 frees and with a plentiful supply of ball going into the forwards further points from play were registered by Luke Cullinane,Ashley Walsh and Ciaran Mullins with two. A Luke Cullinane goal following good approach work from Robbie Jermyn and Stevie Beausang left the half time score 1.06 to 1 point in our favour.
The second half was an almost carbon copy of the first with us winning it 1.05 to 1 point with Eoin Motherway and Ashley points 1.01 from Ciaran Mullins and 2 more Chris frees closing the scoring on an excellent performance.
Next up for this team is a championship outing against Glenville and with a number of tonight’s team likely to play Intermediate championship it will prove a tough assignment.

Junior B Football Championship.
The Junior B footballers took on Glenville in a preliminary round game on Sunday morning last at the splendid Lisgoold venue.
We performed very well in the first half to be only 3 points in arrears 1.05 to 1.02 with Robbie Jermyn the goal scorer.
The second half however was a different story and our difficulty getting our hands on the ball around midfield forced us to play second fiddle to a strong Glenville outfit.
The final score was Glenville 3.11 Cloyne 1.04.
This was only a preliminary round game and we now enter round one proper with a tie against Bride Rovers and with a number of notable absentees to come back onto the team we will be ready to meet the challenge head on.
