East Cork Junior A Football Championship 1st Round
Castlemartyr 0-10 Lisgoold 0-09
Ballinacurra was the venue for our 1st round football championship opener. It was a tough draw seen us take on last years East Cork football finalists Lisgoold.

The opening minutes of this contest were scrappy with both teams cancelling each other out but after some persistant pressure we opened the scoring with a Jamie Stack point. We then took a commanding lead in the game scoring 3 more points with out reply. Eddie Clifford and a free and 45 from Jamie Stack saw us go 4 points clear. However Lisgoold replied back and hit 5 points without reply before another Jamie Stack point saw both sides go in at hal;f time level at 5 points each.

The second half was another tight affair. Lisgoold scored shortly after the restart to go 6-5 up but Cian Haines levelled us at 6-6 soon afterwards. Lisgoold then went ahead in this contest scoring 2 points to lead 8-6. Once again Castlemartyr hit back with 2 points from Eddie Clifford and Barry Lawton to level the game at 8-8. With the game going into the final few minutes Castlemartyr edged ahead with a Brian Lawton point. Lisgoold then hit back with another point to level the game at 9-9.

With extra time looming and the game gone into injury time up popped super sub Colm Beausang to pop over the winning point. Soon after the final whistle blew giving us a vital one point victory. It was a very spirited and determined display for the Reds and very pleasing to overcome the challenge from last years finalists. We now await our opponents in the 3rd round draw that will be made after the 2nd round games next week.
