Intermediate Football;
The Intermediate footballers continued their preparations for the upcoming championship with a well deserved league win over Mayfield on Thursday night last.
Playing against the strong wind we started sluggishly and quickly found ourselves 2 points behind, our first score a Paul Sullivan free soon arrived but then Mayfield playing a fast fluent style of football took over and scored the next 5 points unanswered, 4 from play and a 45.A Paul Sul point this time from play which was quickly followed by a like Mayfield score had us 8 points to 2 behind after only 20 minutes and staring at a heavy defeat.
Returning to the hard working style that had reaped dividends in our last league game saw us finish out the half very well with the last 3 points of the half a Ciaran Mullins effort from play and 2 from that man Paul Sul again to leave the half time score a more manageable 8points to 5.
The second half looked to be taking the pattern of the first with Mayfield first to register a point followed by two Cloyne points from Eoin O, Sullivan from play and another pointed Paul free.Mayfields response was swift with another point from play but that was to prove to be their last score for some 20 minutes as Cloyne powered forward benefitting from a monopoly of possession gained from our midfield dominance.
Two points from Eoin O’Sullivan who was beginning to get on top of his man at full forward and an excellently finished goal from midfielder Brian Fleming saw us hit the front for the first time in the game. Our next score epitomised the work rate of the team when Ciaran Mullins intercepted a quick Mayfield free on our half back line the ball was worked at speed to the inform Paul O’Sullivan who finished emphatically to the net to give us a cushion we would not relinquish.
Ashley Walsh finished our scoring with 2 points from play and a consolation score from the shell shocked Mayfield outfit brought the curtain down on an excellent 2.11 to 0.11 victory.
