Carrigtwohill  4-12   Russell Rovers  0-8

Our footballers travelled to Carrigtwohill on Tuesday evening, 15th April, to play the home side in Round 6 of the Junior Football League, Division 2. Unfortunately, while we were short a number of first choice players, we came up against a full strength Carrig side who were obviously treating the game seriously in preparation for the Junior A championship at the week-end.
We managed to stay with them for the opening quarter until we were blitzed with a three-goal salvo for which goalkeeper Shane Casey could not be faulted. We trailed
3-6 to 0-4 at the break and in the second half it was a case of damage limitation.
To their credit, our lads fought for every ball to the very end but there was simply nothing they could do to bridge the gulf in standard between the sides.

Team: Shane Casey; Aidan Beausang, David Whelehan, Seamus Kearney; Eoin McGrath, Paul Lane, Ricky Walsh; Kevin Ivers, John Paul Ivers;  Brian Whelehan, Jack McGrath, Michael Furlong; Sean Roche, Anthony Archer, alan cott.
Subs: Joe O’Flynn, Joe Walsh, Chris Scanlon, Brandon Keohane.

Russell Rovers  1-8   Sarsfields  4-20

Last Thursday night we suffered our second heavy defeat of the week when our second hurling team hosted Sarsfields in the first round of the Junior Hurling League, Division 3.
On what was a lovely evening for hurling, we got off to a good start with early points from James Moynihan and Alan Cott (free) before Sars gave the first hint of what was to come later in the game when they fired over five unanswered points in as many  minutes. A point by James Ahern and another converted free by Cott put us back on track before Sars struck for their first goal, followed by a brace of points. Three well-taken points by Ahern (0-2 f) and another from Cott helped to keep us in touch but Sars finished the half stronger with another brace of points to leave us trailing by 1-10 to 0-8 at the break.
On the resumption of play, the Riverstown men upped the ante and went on a scoring rampage which yielded a further 3-10 before we got our only score of the half, a goal in the dying seconds by substitute Denis O’Flynn following good work by Michael Furlong.
While this was a comprehensive defeat, our team and mentors should not be too despondent as we came up against a very strong Sars outfit which would be capable of holding their own in a higher division.

Team: Joe Walsh; Ricky Walsh.Martin O’Flynn, Shane Casey; Seamus Kearney, Kevin Ivers, Barry Fitzgerald; Kevin O’Brien, James Ahern; Aidan Beausang, Brian Crowley, Alan Cott; Chris Scanlon, Philip Whyte, James Moynihan.
Subs: Denis O’Flynn, Michael Furlong, Brendan Kearney, Anthony Archer and Shane
Flynn (all used).
