Intermediate Football;
When the Latin proverb “Nihil Sine Labore” was first penned over 5000 years ago I doubt very much that it’s inspiration came from the GAA.The proverb that literally means “nothing without effort” could however sum up the performance of our Intermediate football team against Youghal last Friday night.The success of this team over the last few years has been built on hard work and effort and it was great to see it in evidence again last Friday night.
The first 10 minutes of the game were even enough with the teams deadlocked at 2 points each,a purple patch of 10 minutes which saw us score an unanswered 1.04 gave us a cushion of 7 points 1.06 to 4pts coming up to half time.Youghal however finished out the half the stronger scoring the last 2 points to leave the half time score 1.06 to 4 points in our favour.The feature of the first half was the contribution of 3 points from the half back line ,2 coming from the boot of Eoin Motherway and the third from centre back Domhnall O’Sullivan,the goal was expertly taken by Ciaran Mullins and the other point scorers were Eoin and Paul O’Sullivan and Brian Fleming.
We were quickly into our stride in the second half with an Eoin O’Sullivan point and when an attempt from Ciaran Mullins for a point fell short Anthony Quinlan reacted quickest to finish to the net.This score gave us a cushion which we never relinquished and playing some lovely combined football we tacked on 2 further points to win out 2.09 to 7 points.
This was a very satisfactory performance with the championship against Fermoy looming and with all our players coming back from injury we should have a full panel to pick from come championship time.
