Busy Hurling Weekend

PI Hurling League

Castlelyons  0-13  Ballincollig  1-09

Castlelyons and Ballincollig played a PI hurling league match in Castlelyons on Sunday afternoon. After a very wet few days the sun was out for this match and pitch conditions were very good. Castlelyons were first to score when R O Regan pointed in the first minute following a good clearance from C McGann. Ballincollig replied with a point from a free to level the match after 5 mins. M Spillane scored 3 frees in the next 10 mins and D Tobin and R O Regan added more points to leave Castlelyons leading 0-06 to 0-03 at half time. Ballincollig scored the first 2 points of the second half to reduce our lead but with points from S Moroney, R Fenton, and M Spillane Castlelyons were still 3 points ahead with 15 mins to go.The next score of the match was a goal for Ballincollig and when they added a point they were  ahead with 10 mins to go. R O Regan leveled the match with a point, following great work from T Carroll , only for Ballincollig to go ahead again. P Mahon ,D Tobin, and B Fitzgerald all pointed in the last minutes to leave Castlelyons winning on a score of 0-13 to 1-09. A very important victory as it was our first win in this years league and with an ever increasing injury list, with C Barry being the latest addition, great credit is due to all that played and pulled off this win.

JB Hurling League

Castlelyons 0-11 Erins Own 5-15

As the score line would suggest this ,the first JB hurling league match, resulted in a very comprehensive win for Erins Own. With our hurling panel at the moment decimated with injuries 6 of this team had already  played for the PI team  a few hours earlier and as the game went on the team ran out of steam. Teams were pretty even until Erins Own got 2 goals just before half time to go in leading  2-10 to 0-06. Second half saw Erins Own pull away and win easily. Well done to everyone for the effort shown and especially to those that had already played earlier in the day.

Team: J Barry, L Moroney, M Murphy, C O Neill, P O Regan (0-01), R Bransfield (0-02), D Varner, S Fenton (0-01), D Tobin (0-03f), A O Regan (0-01), R Fenton (0-01), R O Regan (0-02), MJ Dorgan, S Moroney, C Cotter.

Minor Hurling League

On a dry fine night with pitch conditions good Bride Rovers started the better and led by 7 pts after 10 mins. However in the last 5 mins Bride Rovers got in for a goal and a few points to lead at half time by 10 points. The second half was a very even affair  with points from S Moroney,B Geary and J Barry Bride Rovers ran out winners on a score of 1-22 to 1-14.
