Minor Football:
Killeagh-Itas minor footballers played Glanmire in their first round championsip tie in Cobh on Sunday, March 30th. It was a very good game for those who travelled to see the lads in action as the match required twenty minutes of extra time to separate the teams. From the throw-in, Killeagh-Itas were first to the ball and were first to get on the scoreboard with a point from play. They continued to play very well and added two more points before Glanmire got off the mark. Glanmire held the initiative and were level on three points each after twenty minutes of play. Killeagh-Itas then regained the advantage and went in at the break leading by 0-05 to 0-04. However, Glanmire came out the stronger of the two in the second half and picked off some nice points to race into a three point lead before Killeagh-Itas broke their second half duck. Shortly after opening their second-half account, disaster struck as Killeagh-Itas lost their goalkeeper for a black card offence and conceded a goal from the resultant penalty. All hands to the pump then for the remains of the second half and they showed great mettle in overcoming a five point deficit to gain a draw at the ned of normal time with both teams scoring 1-10 each. Unfortunately though, they failed to shine for the duration of the extra time and managed to add one point from play while Glanmire scored 2-03 to run out winners on a final score of Glanmire 3-13 to Killeagh-Itas 1-11. Killeagh-Itas must now wait and see who their opponents will be in a qualifier round.

U-13 Football:
Our young footballers had a challenge game against Kiltha Óg on Saturday last, March 29th in Killeagh. Despite the poor weather there was a great turnout of players for the game. Both teams enjoyed a very worthwhile work-out ahead of forthcoming league games. There was a good display of individual skills and also good teamwork skills from both teams and both sets of mentors were very satisfied with the challenge. Killeagh-Itas U13’s would like to sincerely thank the Kiltha Óg players, mentors and parents/supporters for travelling over for the game despite the very poor weather. Our U13’s play their first football league game against Glenville on Monday evening, March 31st in Glenville at 6.45pm
Fun Quiz is Great Fun!
Thursday night last saw Killeagh Hall packed to the rafters for the first annual Killeagh-Ita’s Fun Quiz for Primary School Pupils. A massive 46 teams participated, with all corners of the hall and stage full to capacity, catering for pupils from all the schools in the parish, as well as teams from Clonpriest, Castlemartyr, Scoil Choráin, Youghal, Ballintotis and Knockanore. The heads were scratched and the brains racked for almost two hours and 100 questions, and at the end the honours went to one of the Castlemartyr teams who had a great score, Caoimhe Barry, Odhran Cantwell, Ronan Hayes and Conor Ronayne, missing only 4 questions all night. Teams from Inch NS and Killeagh NS followed, just one point behind, while spot prizes were also won by teams from Kyle and Inch. The proceeds of the night were shared between Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA and Inch Foróige who are sending a group to Kolkata in India next month. Well done to all involved and to everyone who helped on the night and a big thank you to all the young boys and girls who came and gave it their best shot! We’re looking forward to the 2015 quiz already.
U-14 Hurling:
Classic game ends in one-point victory
Killeagh-Ita’s 3-8, Kiltha Óg 3-7
The opening league game of the Rebel Óg Eastern Fé 14 Hurling League took place in the Field of Dreams under lights in Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Friday evening last, when we welcomed our neighbours Kiltha Óg. From the first whistle (Jim Daly in good control throughout), this was a rip-roaring encounter with great hurling and effort displayed by both sides. Our boys settled quickly, with Richie Long on the mark with an early point and goal. Olin Hennessy, Adrian Galvin and Ryan McCarthy were striking lots of good ball in the middle third, while Dylan Hogan and Padraig Leahy were dominant in defence. Kiltha came back with some good points, mostly from frees, and just before half-time they drew level, 1-3 to 0-6. Then Olan Broderick, who had just been introduced as a sub, made a quick impression with a fine goal to give our boys a three point interval lead. Kiltha came out all guns blazing in the second half, and two goals in the first ten minutes gave them a lead of 2-7 to 2-4. Shortly after, Cian McDonald won possession and burst in and kicked a fine goal to level the match, and tow further points (Olan and Richie) put us 2 ahead. Back came Kiltha with their third goal on 50 minutes to lead by 3-7 to 3-6. Both teams had chances to score but both defences were heroic. However Richie Long came up trumps with two points, one from a free and one from play, to close out the game and give us victory by the narrowest of margins. Well done to both teams for contributing to a great game, no doubt these two teams will meet again in the course of 2014.
Team: Darragh O’Connor, James Kent, Dylan Hogan, Daragh Geary, Barry Motherway, Padraig Leahy, Robert Sinclair, Ryan McCarthy, Adrian Galvin, Andrew Foley, Liam McCarthy, Richie Long (1-7), Kieran Daly, Cian McDonald (1-0), Olin Hennessy. Subs: Olan Broderick (1-1), Danny Cunningham, Dara Motherway, Richie Landers.

Killeagh-Itas v Kiltha Óg
The Killeagh-Itas Fé 11 footballers started their league campaign on Friday night with a very competitive contest with Kiltha Óg in Killeagh-Itas.  Starting into a stiff wind we defended very strongly and played some great football to finish the half level with one goal and a point to Kiltha’s four points. The second half saw Killeagh-Itas play all the football and only for some great play from the visiting goalkeeper our boys would have been well ahead.  This was a very robust contest with some fantastic skills on display from both sides.  Our second goal midway into the second half saw the Killeagh-Itas boys enter the final minute 2 points to the good.  The final kick of the game saw Killeagh-Itas disappointed as we shipped a goal against the run of play to lose the match by a single point.  Each and every one of our boys played their hearts out. Our defence was very solid with Colm Treacy and George Walsh standing out while at midfield Evan Lane and Jamie Fogarty ruled the roost.  Up front Paidi Mackey played a stormer with Aaron Fitzgibbon also standing out.
U7 & U8
On Saturday last, Killeagh GAA club hosted the 1st U7 & U8 monster football blitz of the year.  Teams from Killeagh, St Itas, St Coleman’s, Youghal, Carrignavar and Lisgoold attended.  Killeagh fielded three teams.  These boys gave a great display of kicking and hand passing skills during their games.  The last couple of weeks training have reaped its rewards. Refreshments were given out on the day to both adults and children.  Thanks to all that helped out on the day. Training is next Sat morning at 10am.  The hurling Blitz is on Sat 12/04/14.
