U21 Football;

Our reward for the excellent extra time first round win over St Catherines was a quarterfinal assignment against Glenbower Rovers. We conceded home advantage to the Killeagh outfit to fit the fixture into an already busy period. From the outset it was clear that the opposition were a step up from our first round encounter but we did well despite limited possession to only trail at half time by 2points, 7 points to 1.02.Our point scorers were an excellent effort from play from Ciaran Mullins and a pointed Liam Murphy free while the goal scorer was Rob Jermyn who finished excellently having broken onto a breaking ball. Glenbower enjoyed similar advantage in possession in the second half and gradually pulled ahead on the scoreboard with our only second half reply a Liam Murphy free. The final score of 14pts to 1.03 didn’t do our efforts justice but the better team definitely won the game but a very young Cloyne outfit can be very proud of their efforts. Our thanks also to Mick Kiely and Domhnall O’Sullivan for looking after the team for the year.

Intermediate Hurling;

Unfortunately the trend of fielding understrength teams continued for another weekend with us playing the first 10 minutes of this game with only 14 players such is the extent of our injury crisis and player unavailability. However having said all that it was probably our best performance of the year despite a 4 point loss 11 pts to 7. The first half saw us play with the strong biting cold wind and we opened our account with a long range Killian Cronin point from play, a Conor Cusack point from play and an Ashley Walsh free was all we could muster for the remainder of the half to leave us all square at half time 3points each. The second half saw us perform a lot better but Kilworth used the wind well to keep us at arms length and when we couldn’t take one of the numerous goal chances we created we finally fell short loosing by 4 points 11 to 7. A fine Donal Og save was one of the highlights of the half, best for Cloyne on the day were, Brian McCarthy, James Cotter, A Quinlan,C Cusack and David Jermyn in his new full forward position.
