GOOD START FOR NEW COACH.

SHL YOUGHAL 1-14 CARRIGTWOHILL 0-14.

Youghal got their new coach Ray Delaney off to the perfect start with a hard earned victory over Carrigtwohill in Magniers Hill last Sunday morning before a good crowd to record their first brace of points since being elevated to Senior status this season and as it was only their second outing in the league, having to give best to County Champions Midleton in the first round by a couple of points, they can look forward with optimism to the next few games in their build up to the championship.

The first half was evenly contested with the home team leading by the bare minimum at half time 0-8 to 0-7. Youghal took some good scores in that period with the first score coming from Gareth Hogan, making a welcome return to GAA activities after a few years sabbatical, a couple of good efforts from the Ring brothers Barry (1) and Damien (2) A Curtin and Bill Cooper one each and a fine brace from the impressive Andrew Joyce.

Carrig on the other hand were reliant on the accuracy of Thomas Hogan from placed efforts. Damien Ring added 3 more points and Andrew Curtin chipped in with a beauty , while Carrig also added 3 points to leave 2 between the teams 0-12 to 0-10 midway through the second half, before the game swung in Youghal's favour big time when Brett Moloney ran on to a long delivery before controlling the ball beautifully to slot home from close range, and this was followed by two great points in as many minutes by Andrew Curtin to one for Carrig, to leave Youghal in a commanding position leading 1-14 to 0-11.

Carrig had other ideas however and finished with a flourish adding 3 more points and Hogan had a chance to level matters with the last puck of the game when his free took a deflection and went wide of the posts. So a good win and a lot of positives to be taken from the game and while they were missing a few players so were Carrigtwohill.

A few challenge games are lined up for the next week or so before the next few league games v Erin's Own and St Finbarr's.
