U21 Football Championship;
On Friday night last we travelled to Ballynoe to take on St Catherines in the first round of this year’s U21 football championship.
On a perfect night for football we started well playing against the slight wind scoring the first 4 unanswered points from Ciaran Mullins,Liam Murphy,Robbie Jermyn and an excellent score from Stevie Beausang following a quick free from Cian Motherway.
We were enjoying plenty of possession but failed with numerous goal chances and were made pay when St Catherines opened their account with a well taken goal.St Catherines finished the half the stronger scoring the last 3 points to lead 1.03 to 4 points at half time.
We started the second half in determined fashion and drew level with 2 pointed frees from Liam Murphy and Chris Smith.The game was now in the melting pot and an excellent Robbie point following a Stevie Beausang turnover saw us retake the lead.
The remainder of the game saw points swapped with both Robbie and Ciaran from play putting us one ahead with time almost up only for St Catherines to their credit conjouring up an equalizer with the last kick of the game.
Extra time was now on the cards and just like the regulation first half we were quickly on the scoreboard with 1.03 registered in the opening half from point scorers Robbie,Ciaran,and a very skillful Liam Murphy effort added to a Brian O’Shea goal
expertly finished after being set up by Robbie Jermyn.
The second half saw us put up an excellent rearguard action conceding only one point to finish up worthy winners 1.12 to 1.07.
This was an excellent team performance with outstanding performances from Robbie Jermyn,Keith Dennehy and Stevie Beausang.
We now face Killeagh in round 2.

Intermediate Football;
On Sunday last we took on Kanturk in round 3 of the Division 4 football league.As has become the norm over the previous 2 games we started with an understrength team missing a number of regulars.Playing against the stiff breeze we conceded the first 3 points before a Paul O’Sullivan point opened our account.Kanturk were next to score with a pointed 45 following good defensive work from Stevie Beausang.A James Nyhan point following good approach work from Tommy O’Shea and Mike Naughton kept us in touch.We were dealt a killer blow on the stroke of half time when we conceded a sloppy goal having had numerous chances to clear,Kanturk closed the scoring with another pointed 45 to leave the half time score 1.05 to 2 points.
Kanturk opened the second half scoring with a pointed free,the next 10 minutes saw an improvement in our play and an Eoin O’Sullivan point and 2 Paul O’Sullivan frees closed the gap.This was as good as it got though and 4 unanswered points from Kanturk finished the scoring to leave them comfortable winners 1.10 to 5 points.
Even allowing for those missing this was a very unsatisfactory performance with a lot of work ahead before our championship encounter with Fermoy.
