The day is nigh, it’s that time of year again where the camán warriors in East Cork clash to claim the right to lift the Jamesy Kelleher Cup. We're not even half-ways through the first round and already we have shocks, St.Ita's overturning Russell Rovers over the weekend may not have grabbed the headlines on Monday's paper, but shows that no team is safe in this championship. Holders Carrignavar who won a historic triumph last September lock horns with Sarsfields [who are on a crest of a wave at the moment] on Friday night in Catherlag, tie of the round no doubt. Even though Carrig are champions you will have to admit that Sars are favourites not only for that tie, but for the whole championship. Let’s hope it will be another season to remember. Not much playing activity this week for our boys, as Gerry Ryan and his backroom team decided to rest the squad before this Saturday's showdown against Bride Rovers. Gerry when asked about the feeling in the camp, stated "It's going fine, we are underdogs for this encounter and unfortunately performances lately haven't been up to scratch, and I do feel that thereare still a few things that need to be ironed out but hopefully this will be sorted come Saturday night." So it’s all roads lead to Castlelyons as Lisgoold take on Bride Rovers in the JAHC 1st Round.

Whilst we're on this issue of teams starting on the right note for championship, we like to take this opportunity to say well done to the Cork camogie team or the "Rebelettes" as they are known on a resounding win against Dublin last Saturday [3-21 to 1-7] in their 1st group stage game in defence of the "O'Duffy Cup" that they won last year. Lets hope these outstanding group of ladies [as well as the ladies footballers] will bring home more silverware to the rebel county come September.
