Intermediate Hurling;
The first league game of the year proved to be a disappointing one as we lost at home to Ballinhassig by 2.14 to 9 points.
Short a number of regulars we began the game very tentatively and soon found ourselves behind 1.02 to no score. We finished the half very well and were only 2 points behind at the break 1.07 to 8 points.
The second half saw our scoring dry up as we only managed to add one point to our half time tally. A second goal for Ballinhassig sealed the game for them and they ran out deserving winners by 2.14 to 9 points.
Best for Cloyne on the day were Stevie Beausang, Domhnall O’Sullivan and Paul O’Sullivan.
Our next game is the Liam Breathneach semi-final v Bandon on Friday night where we will hopefully welcome back some of the injured players.

Junior Football;
Our first Division 3 league game of the year was a visit to Glenville on Friday night last. While defeat was our lot it was an encouraging display on a bitterly cold night.
Playing against the hill and on a sticky pitch we quickly found ourselves under pressure and conceded the first 4 scores of the game 3 points and a fortuitous goal and but for some great saves from keeper Brian O’Shea we could have found ourselves further in arrears. We eventually got on the scoreboard when Robbie Jermyn bundled the ball over the line when he followed an effort for a point into the square. We were beginning to get our hands on the ball around the middle of the field but consistently kicked it away when trying to find a forward.
Glenville scored a further 1.03 before the break and when Luke Cullinane pointed it brought the half to a close with us 2.06 to 1.01 behind.
Glenville were again faster than us out of the blocks in the second half  scoring 1.01 before Luke again found the range and he quickly followed this up with a goal and another point. We were playing our best football of the game at this stage but 2 points on the break by Glenville saw them weather the storm. We finished the game strongly with an excellent Eoin Motherway point and points from Stewart Creighton and another from Luke to bring his tally to 1.04 to lose on the final score of 3.11 to 2.06.
A fair summing up of the performance would be, very good with the ball but very poor without it.

Congratulations to club doctor Dr Eanna Falvey on receiving his PhD in Sports Medicine in UCC recently. We are very fortunate to have a man of Eanna’s calibre still willing to help us out even with his hectic workload.
