Intermediate Football;
We collected our first league points of the year by virtue of a 4 point win over Ballydesmond on Friday night last. The game was played at a bitterly cold and wet Mallow venue.
Cloyne played against the wind in the first half and started brightly using the ball well putting some nice moves together.Ballydesmond opened the games scoring with a pointed free but this was cancelled out by a fine Brian Fleming point which was quickly added to by an equally impressive Killian Cronin point from play to put us a point to the good.
Ballydesmond scored the next two point’s one from a free to put them back into the lead, a lead that was pegged back by a Stewart Creighton free. On the stroke of half time we fell behind again with the concession of a pointed free but a one point deficit 4 to 3 was satisfactory haven played against the wind.
The second half didn’t begin as we would have hoped with Ballydesmond scoring four unanswered points one from a free to put them 5 ahead. A Paul O Sullivan pointed free stopped the bleeding and when Brian Fleming pounced on a loose ball to score an excellent goal we were right back in the game. A Paul Sul free brought us level and when Ciaran Mullins scrambled the ball over the line we were ahead for the first time. Two more points from James Nyhan and a beauty from Cian Motherway who was to have a fine debut at this level brought the scoring to a close.
The second half saw us collect three Black cards our first under the new rules.
Best on the night were Cian Motherway,Killian Cronin and Paul O’Sullivan.
