JFL Division 1 Lisgoold 1-8 (11) Cobh 0-10 (10)

At Cobh 15th Feb 2014 The first competitive game of the season was held last Saturday night in the sea side town. In a close, tight and competitive match, we were fortunate to come out on the right side of a one point margin. Eoin O’Sullivan, Moss O’Connell, Patrick O’Mahony and John Cashman were some of our best performers on the night. John Cashman was chipping over the frees when needed, our midfield paring of Conor Walsh and Alan Conroy were battling away. The goal came from a superb move from the backs to With Ciaran, Charlie McCarthy linking with Patrick and John Cashman to set-up Charles Smart, who grabbed a goal which turned out, to be the crucial score.

The remainder of the match saw a backs to the wall performance. In which a mixture of injuries which led to numerous changes, coupled with poor decision making from us and excellent determination from Cobh saw them fight back to a one point game. However a mixture of luck and poor shooting cost them dearly and we came away with our first win of the campaign. Room for improvement, but the 2014 league campaign has finally started.

JFL Division 1 Lisgoold 0-3 (3) Glenbower Rvs 3-13 (22)

At Pilmore 16th Feb 2014

As the score-line suggests this was a very one sided match. Due to injuries, players away and work related reasons, we only had 17 players available, but it would be hard to fault them for their efforts in a wind-swept Pilmore pitch. Rovers were simply too strong for us on the day, this is not to say we could have match them but it’s hard when a full panel is not available. Manager Barry Ahern did hand out debuts to some of our new panel members like Ciaran O’Shea, Luke Morrissey and Caoimhán O’Se.

This will bring them on leaps and bounds no doubt when more games come. It was a poor affair from start to finish and will be quickly forgotten about as the season goes on.
