Intermediate Football;
The first game of the 2014 Division 4 football league took place at home last Sunday afternoon where we welcomed Kildorrery.
Short roughly 10 first team players due to injury this was going to be a tough opening game and so it turned out with the physically stronger Kildorrery outfit winning out on the scoreline of 2.12 to 6 points.
We played against the stiff breeze and were first to score courtesy of a fine Paul O’Sullivan point but struggled for the rest of the half and with half time approaching we were behind 8pts to 3, our 2 points coming from the boot of paul again and a fine James Lynch effort that should have raised the green flag following a very good move. We were however dealt a hammer blow with the concession of a goal on the stroke of half time to leave the half time score 1.08 to 3points.
The management team made some substitutions and positional switches at half time to try and improve matters and while we enjoyed more possession we still struggled to put scores on the board. The concession of a second goal ended the game as a contest but we did finish the game strongly with 3 good points 2 from the impressive Paul O’Sullivan and the other a Ciaran Mullins effort.
Final score Kildorrery 2.12 Cloyne 6 points.
Best for Cloyne on a disappointing day were Paul O’Sullivan,Killian Cronin and Keith Dennehy.
