NEWSLETTER FOR W/C February 10th 2014 .
Registration Day
REGISTRATION DAY A GREAT SUCCESS
The sun (remember that strange object in the sky?) shone (well for some of the time at least), the music was great (upstairs and downstairs) and everyone was in good form as the first day that one could call a Spring Day coincided with the Killeagh-Ita’s Annual Registration Day last Sunday afternoon, February 9th. Upstairs we had our team of volunteers taking registrations and doling out welcome cups of tea and refreshments, and we had the young girls from Killeagh NS playing their instruments and keeping the mood music right. Downstairs our main hall was rocking to music of a different beat with DJ Chink (David O’Keeffe) keeping the young and not-so-young entertained, while our Club Shop and our first-time venture, our Swap Shop, also had plenty of footfall. At the end of the afternoon, all our young players were called one-by-one to get a slíotar and gumshield, setting them up nicely for the season ahead in both hurling and football. A large crowd attended and renewed or commenced their membership of Killeagh-Ita’s GAA Club. Chairmen Colman Motherway (Killeagh-Ita’s) and Kieran Scully (Killeagh) thanked all who turned up and made a special note of welcome to our new members. All members who signed up on the day were entered into a draw for a replica club hoodie which was won by Dale McMahon. Many thanks to everyone who helped in the planning of the day, and in the many jobs that were done throughout Páirc Uí Chinnéide, inside and outside, to ensure that everything ran smoothly. The combined efforts of everyone are greatly appreciated.

If for some reason you were unable to attend on the day, remember that all our players must have membership paid up before the playing season commences, so call in to Ursula @ John Coleman’s Newsagents on Main Street for a registration form as soon as possible.

SEAMIE HAS THE WOW FACTOR!
Seamie Harnedy came back to his roots (Killeagh-Ita’s) on Friday evening last as he presented medals to the U14 team of 2013, who had ended the season with an impressive three trophies. In September this team won the Dick Doocey Cup in Killeagh, in October they won the Tobin Cup in Knockanore, defeating their hosts Cois Bríd, and in early December they raided across the Déise border once again and won the prestigious Paddy Whelan Tournament in Lismore, again defeating their hosts. To celebrate these successes the team went to Leisureplex in Cork early on Friday evening for some Quasar, bowling and food, and then returned to the Páirc Uí Chinnéide clubhouse to meet Seamie, with his coveted All-Star trophy in tow. It was a very enjoyable evening, for the boys and their families, as Seamie spoke about the joys and challenges of being an elite hurler, presented medals to the boys, including his first cousin Jamie Landers who was team captain, and he posed patiently for photo after photo with all present. It was nice to have Seamie’s clubmate Shane Supple present on the night, and also to have Dick Doocey present as his cup was being proudly displayed. Well done boys – drive on now for 2014!
