Dinner Dance
Our annual dinner dance was held on Saturday November 30th in the fabulous surroundings of the Garryvoe Hotel. It proved, yet again, to be a very enjoyable night for all who attended with the live entertainment courtesy of Men in Black. This important event in our busy social calendar was very well supported again this year and enormous thanks are due to all the staff and management of the hotel for the excellent service provided to all the guests throughout the night. Club chairman, Kieran Scully welcomed and thanked all those who attended on the night. He paid tribute to all who played any part in supporting the club, big or small, this past year and looked forward to the coming year with great anticipation. He thanked the organisers of the dinner dance especially Ursula Coleman and Sean Treacy who work tirelessly to ensure its success each year. On behalf of the club, he made a presentation to both Seamus Harnedy and Bernard Rochford in recognition of their achievements on the field of play this year. He also asked those present to remember friends and club members who sadly passed away this year and he made a special presentation to Kieran and Kevin Lane from the club in honour of their late father, Kevin Lane. In conclusion, he again thanked all those who had supported the club and those who helped him in any way this year and hoped that they could all relax and enjoy the night.
Mary O’Connor spoke on behalf of the Killeagh Camogie Club and Thomas Goggins spoke on behalf of the Inch Rovers Ladies Football Club. The victorious junior ‘A’ footballers received their medals from East Cork chairman, Richard (Dick) Fitzgerald and the team panel was introduced by team captain, Conor Murphy. The night’s entertainment was rounded off with a superb disco hosted by clubman, David O’Keefe.

Killeagh-Ita’s 6-13, Lismore 0-8
It’s probably a good sign when you’re still hurling in December 1st, and when you’re hurling well it’s even better. Our Under 14 boys were invited by Lismore to participate in their Paddy Whelan Memorial Tournament (25th year) on Sunday morning and those who were present saw a fine game of hurling which was decided by a blistering last quarter for our boys. In the first half there was little between the sides, with a ’65 from Shane Kearney opening the scoring and our boys pushing on to lead by 0-6 to 0-2 after 22 minutes. Keane Budds (2), Jamie Clifford and Sean Walsh (2) added to Shane’s early score, but then Lismore scored three points in a purple patch before half time before a late Shane Kearney free gave us a 0-7 to 0-5 lead at half time.Lismore started very brightly in the second half and reduced the margin to one point after 39 minutes, 08- to 0-7. However, our boys then took over completely and after Sean and Keane had pointed, the floodgates opened as we scored five goals in nine minutes between the 44th and 53rd minute. Richie Long scored the first and fourth of these, while Jamie Clifford and two from Keane Budds were added to by a point from Sean Walsh. Sean and Keane added further points before Lismore got their final point with a minute to go. The final score of the game was a third goal from Keane (repeating his hat-trick performances from early in 2013) to leave the score at 6-13 to 0-8. This meant that Daniel Hickey, Jamie Landers, Shane Kearney, Keane Budds, Jamie Clifford, Fionn McDonnell and Sean Walsh signed off their Under 14 careers in style, with captain Jamie Landers accepting the Paddy Whelan Shield on behalf of his team mates. Many thanks to Lismore for the invitiation to play in this tournament, and a big bualadh bos to our bainisteoiri Ken Budds and Richie Brennan for enabling this team to improve steadily throughout 2013. The skill level, the intensity and the team-work have all improved, and the boys’ confidence in their own ability is more apparent. Here’s to 2014!
Team: Fionn McDonnell, James Kent, Daniel Hickey, Barry Motherway, Shane Kearney (0-2f), Jamie Landers, Dylan Hogan, Padraig Leahy, Keane Kelly Budds (3-4), Richie Long (2-0), Sean Walsh (0-6), Adrian Galvin, Olin Hennessy, Jamie Clifford (1-1), Kieran Daly, Liam McCarthy & Daragh Geary.

Round 3 of the Indoor Hurling League took place on Monday last in Youghal GAA Hall, and the intensity notched up a gear as the knockout stages loom! Oisin’s Yellow Team added another victory in League 1, defeating the depleted Reds by 15-10, while Tommy Noonan’s Green Team got back on track with a narrow 8-7 win over the previously unbeaten Blues. In League 2, Jonathan Guerin’s Green Team had a great start over Olan Coleman’s Blue Team, with Jonathan himself doing a lot of the scoring damage, and they won by 16-10 to top the league. Dara Motherway’s Red Team got their opening win over the Yellow Team, also by 16-10. So in the semi-finals this week, it’s Greens 1 v Blues 1, Yellows 1 v Reds 1, Greens 2 v Yellows 2 and Blues 2 v Reds 2. Bring it on!

43 coaches and potential coaches attended Part 1 of the GAA Foundation Coaching Course in Páirc Uí Chinnéide, Killeagh on Wednesday evening last, 27th November. The course was facilitated by James McCarthy from Castlehaven who was interesting, informing and inspirational in equal measure. While working predominantly on the skills of football, many of his ideas are easily transferable to hurling also. Many thanks to all those who came along – hopefully everybody brought something home to think about from the evening. Thanks to Sean Crowley, GDA, for his initiative in setting up this course. Part 2 on Saturday December 7th @ 11.30 a.m. sees former National Hurling Director Paudie Butler bring his ideas and inspiration to Killeagh for a hands-on coaching workshop with the emphasis on hurling skills development. To book your place, contact Sean or Colman.

Following our AGM, our new committee are putting plans in place for a busy 2014, and it starts a month early, with Part 2 of our Coaching Course, Indoor Hurling, Poc Fada and Table Quiz all coming in December!
