Lisgoold Notes

News

The Race for Sam is on, and no doubt Cork will be in the hunt come next September, with a simply breath-taking display, they crushed the Kerry side by eight points and hopefully there is going to be all-Ireland success on the horizon. As for Lisgoold, momentum is developing for the junior hurlers as they produced a few wins over the week, Our U14’s bowed out of the hurling championship and Whelan’s Wonders continue to set East Cork ablaze with some impressive results...

JHL Div 2

Lisgoold 2-18 (24)

St.Catherines 0-6 (6)

Our hurlers recorded another two points in a very dour encounter against the men from Ballynoe last Wednesday. Alan Conroy and John Cronin were leading the way with Liam Foley chipping in a few scores, Dave Barry was simply majestic in defence again, and may have made a claim for first team selection. The game was a write-off however, as the speed of the hurling will have to improve if they want to get over the Rathcormac men in a few weeks time.

JHL Div 2

Lisgoold 0-18 (18)

Midleton 0-8 (8)

Our hurlers recorded another two points in another dour encounter against the men from Midleton last Sunday afternoon. Although the result was positive, the hurling wasn’t as Lisgoold can consider themselves lucky to get past an experienced Midleton side. Rob Smart, Pat O’Mahony, and Barry Ahern played well, but the more experienced players seemed to have a lack of cutting edge and yet again the slowness of the play was a huge concern which is needed to be at a higher gear for Junior A Championship, hopefully this will be sorted out come June 27th.

U14 Hurling

Lisgoold 1-5 (8)

St.Catherines 2-16 (22)

Our under 14 team put up a battling performance in this years championship and can be satisfied with putting in a decent performance against a far superior St.Catherines side. Bill Whelan, Martin Connery, and Kevin O'Keeffe were some of Lisgoold's best performers as they just came up against a better side. The result may be disappointing; however our lads can be happy that they did the club proud and never stopped until the final whistle. Our speedy wishes go to Michael Connery, who picked up an unfortunate injury during the match.

U10 Football

Lisgoold 5-6 (21)

St.Catherines 5-3 (18)

Our three battles against the Saints finished on a high note last Saturday morning in Paric Liosgcúl when our Under 10 side were lucky to scrape a victory against an energetic Ballynoe side. With Cian Healy, Peter Duggan, Liam O'Sé playing well and with the Trojan work of Emmet Roche, Liam Chandler and Jake Hogan, Lisgoold always had the upper hand. Their were made fight till the very end though for this win, as the Saints produced a stunning fight back, which just fell short. If it wasn't for the goalkeeping heroics of James Murphy this could have easily have ended in defeat. The Counihan-Style management of Paul Whelan, Kevin O’Shea and Bill Duggan is working wonders. Selector Kevin O'Shea stated "Were delighted with this win, it’s a great boost for them, a real team performance. However, there is going to have to be more effort and work in training as we feel there is a lot more to come from this special group of players, and if they do put it in, who knows what they can achieve."
