Cork County Junior Football Semi-Final: Glenbower Rovers 0-08 Mitchelstown 0-11
Junior ‘B’ Hurling- Eamonn Fleming Cup Quarter-Final: Killeagh 2-07 Ballinacurra 1-15
Cork County Junior Football Semi-Final: Glenbower Rovers 0-08 Mitchelstown 0-11
This semi-final clash took place in Pairc Ui Rinn on Saturday evening, 2nd November. There was great support for both teams for the 6pm throw-in and they showed great respect for the minutes silence in memory of the recently deceased Kevin Lane from Killeagh.
Glenbower got off to the ideal start with a point inside the first minute of the game from David Cahill and quickly followed this up with another point from a Kieran Lane free to go into a two point lead. Mitchelstown got onto the scoreboard with a point after four minutes. It was a six minute wait for the next score which came from Seamus Harnedy to extend Glenbower’s lead to two points again on a scoreline of three points to one. However, Mitchelstown soon clawed back Glenbower’s advantage and by the thirteenth minute, the sides were level with three points apiece. Five minutes later Rovers regained the lead with a point on eighteen minutes through a 45 from Kieran Lane and then extended this further with another point on nineteen minutes from Shay Lyons. Mitchelstown scored the next two points on twenty-two and twenty- nine minutes to draw level on five points each going into the final few minutes of the first half. Mitchelstown scored the final score of the half with a point on thirty-one minutes to retire at half time in the lead by one point with the score Glenbower Rovers 0-05 to Mitchelstown 0-06.
Mitchelstown extended their lead to two points when they scored the first point of the second half after a minute of play. Five minutes later they increased that lead to three points with the score at 0-08 to 0-05.
By the fourteenth minute of the second half they were in full control and had a lead of four points over their opponents. Rovers eventually got their first score of the second half with a point on sixteen minutes and added another point through Shay Lyons on the twenty-third minute from a Kieran Lane free. Mitchelstown regained their four point cushion with points on the twenty-fourth and twenty-seventh minutes and these points were the last to be scored by Mitchelstown in this game. Rovers tried as hard as ever but could only muster one more point in injury time through Kieran Lane and when the final whistle came, Mitchelstown were the victors on a scoreline of Glenbower Rovers 0-08 Mitchelstown 0-11. In losing this game, Glenbower’s interest in this year’s Junior ‘A’ football championship comes to an end. However, they can be extremely proud of their achievements this season where they claimed a memorable three-in-a-row of East Cork titles and reached the semi-finals of the County championships. Well done to the magnificent squad of players and their hard-working management team who have once again brought great pride to their club and community this season.

Well Done:
Killeagh GAA Club would like to congratulate our senior hurling keeper, Bernard Rochford, on his recent performance for Ireland against Scotland in the Shinty International Challenge Games. He put in a commanding performance in the first game, which was a curtain–raiser to the Compromise Rules Game between Ireland and Australia, before he was replaced through injury late in the game. Unfortunately, he was unable to take part in the second game as a result of the injury he received.
Killeagh GAA Golf Society;
President: Mr. Kieran Scully, Captain: Mr. Ray Rochford, Secretary: Mr. Ger Ahern.
A rescheduled date for the cancelled Presidents Prize, presented by Mr. Kieran Scully, has been fixed for Sunday, November 17th. Further details and booking of tee times are available from Society Captain, Mr. Ray Rochford on 0872330054.
Well done to the 39 boys, and to their dedicated parents, who turned up in wild, wet and windy conditions on Saturday last to get our 2013 U12 Football Parish Leagues underway. Our captains for this year’s League are Darragh O’Connor, Owen Cosgrove, George Sinclair and Daniel Lucey. Darragh’s Red Team had a comprehensive victory over George’s Green Team by 6-2 to 2-0, although it could have been different if the Greens had managed to convert even one of their four goal chances in the first five minutes. In the other game Owen’s Yellow Team were too strong for the depleted Blues, winning by 6-2 to 1-3. Next week we have 2 rounds of games, with Reds v Yellows and Blues v Greens, followed by Blues v Reds and Yellows v Greens. In Week 3 (Nov 16th or 17th) we’ll play the semi-finals and finals to wrap up our outdoor activity for the year.

The league will run for 5 Monday nights, from 6.30 to 7.30 and 7.30 to 8.30. Please contact your coach (Johnny, Donie or Colman) to book your place at your preferred time slot.

It’s November so it must be AGM time! Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA AGM takes place in our GAA meeting room in Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Wednesday November 20th @ 8.00 p.m. Please try your best to come along if you are a parent, current or prospective future coach, or if you feel you have anything to offer to our club.

Firstly, congratulations to our East Cork friends in Midleton on winning their first County Senior Hurling championship since 1991. Any young player looking for inspiration and an idol to try to emulate need look no further than the electric Conor Lehane, who proved over the final three games of this year’s County Championship that he is a rare and exceptional talent. Galway have Joe, Clare have Shane, but we have a star every bit as gifted here on our doorstep. Let’s treasure him!
Secondly, best wishes to Killeagh NS boys football team who play neighbours Castlemartyr in the Sciath na Scol Final on Tuesday next, November 12th in Pairc Ui Rinn @ 11.00 a.m. Bring home the bacon, boys!
