Heartbreak in Final.

It was with a heavy heart that Castlelyons supporters left Pairc Ui
Rinn  on Sat night last having witnessed their teams gallant efforts
come up just short against Youghal in the PI hurling County final.
After a tremendous struggle all night by two evenly matched teams
Castlelyons went behind for the first time in the 61th min from where
Youghal went on to claim the title. Having led from the 5th min
Castlelyons put in a superb nights hurling and can be very proud of
their contribution to this final. This panel of players have given
their supporters a fantastic year's entertainment from their first
challenge match against Fr O'Neills back in February to last weekends
county final. The commitment of all the panel to make training and
matches even though some are based in Dublin,Kilkenny,Galway ,Limerick
and Cork  has been superb and thanks to each and every one of you for
this. The season is not over yet with a league final against neighbors
Fermoy, who unluckily lost their county semi-final last weekend ,due to
be played next Sunday. So what better way to get over our
disappointment than to go out next weekend and win this league final.

PI Hurling Final.

Castlelyons 0-10  Youghal  0-11

Castlelyons played Youghal in the PI Hurling County final in Pairc Ui
Rinn on Saturday night last. Played before a very large crowd on a
perfect night for hurling this turned out to be a battle right to the
very end. Castlelyons opened the match very well and took the game to
Youghal from the off. After a few half chances C Spillane gave us the
lead from a free after 5 mins.He doubled the lead from another free
mins later before Youghal had their first score also from a free after
10 mins. This set the tone for the half with both defenses on top and
the first score from play not coming until the 27th minuite. C
Spillane added 2 more frees before A O'Sullivan scored our first from
play just before half time to go in leading 0-05 to 0-04.Second half
began in same fashion with both defenses on top and scores very hard
to come by. We hit our purple patch in the next 10 mins and with C
Spillane unerring from frees we opened up a lead of 3 points and when
P Mahon hit a long range point, our last of the night, we could sense
victory. The experience Youghal have gained over the last 3 years told
at this stage when the began to take control of the game in the last
10 mins and scored the last 4 points with the winning score going over
in added time. A cruel way for our gallant team to loose this match as
this was our first time being behind all night.

The experience this panel of players gained through the year will
stand to them over the coming years and hopefully we will win this
title in the not so distant future.
