East Cork Junior A Hurling Final
After over 2 months waiting, all roads lead to Rathcormack next Sat where Castlemartyr take on Sarsfields in the East Cork showpiece with throw in at 3.30. This of course is a repeat of the 2009 final when Castlemartyr ended their long wait for the Jamsie Kelleher trophy with victory over the Glanmire men. There has been one championship meeting since, with Sarsfields edging Castlemartyr in the first round of last year’s championship. There is likely to be little between the teams on this occasion, with Castlemartyr’s recent experience of playing in the final hopefully standing to them and give them the confidence to claim the title.
Sarsfields have looked strong so far this year, easily accounting for Killeagh in round one, and also  putting up big scores against Lisgoold and Russell Rovers which took them into the semi final. Extra time was needed to see off Midleton which means should be match sharp heading into Saturday.
Castlemartyr have played three matches on route to the final. Our first outing was against Midleton and a five point victory set up a quarter final against defending champions Carrignavar.  Castlemartyr played very well that night and ran out comfortable winners to move to the semi final against Carrigtwohill. Castlemartyr started well in this match and never let Carrig get into the game with a good overall team performance.
So now it’s a case of one more match to be crowned champions and it is going to take a huge effort to overcome this strong Sarsfields team. No doubt Cha O’Neill and his backroom team will have left no stone unturned in the quest to win on the day and I’m sure the lads will give it all they have.
