PIH  Final This Weekend

Castlelyons take on Youghal in the PI Hurling County final this
weekend. After a great run through the summer championship matches
when we defeated Ballincollig, Newcestown and Watergrasshill we are
now just 60 mins away from, hopefully, regaining our senior status.
1998 was the last time we appeared at this stage and with 4 players
still remaining from that winning team we hope to have the perfect mix
of youth and experience to win this final.

This season, from the very first training session under coach John
Boylan back in early February, has seen great spirit and commitment
from all the panel with on average 3 sessions per week being put in
between matches and training. The team has developed and grown over
this period with some fantastic performances which culminated in the
1st round victory over Ballincollig in early June. Our next
championship outing was not until late September but the panel still
worked very hard keeping up their sharpness and playing numerous
league and challenge matches.

The victory over Newcestown, who were noted as being a strong physical
team and very difficult to defeat, was very important in that it
convinced everyone that this team were capable of going all the
way.Watergrasshill in the semi final was a better performance again
with the team growing in confidence all the time.Youghal ,our next
opponents , had some impressive victories on the way to the final and
have been there about over the last 3 years so all in all it has the
makings of a great final.

Great credit is due to this panel of players for their dedication and
commitment during the course of the season and to players ,coach and
management team we wish you all the very best for Saturday night and
we encourage all supporters  to come along and support this great team
in their quest to win the county PI hurling championship.

Please note change of time with match now starting at 7.30 pm in Pairc Ui Rinn.

Castlelyons  4-11  Ballygarvan  1-10

Castlelyons played Ballygarvan in a intermediate league match on
Sunday morning last in Castlelyons. With Castlelyons needing the points
to qualify for the league final and with Ballygarvan's season finished
this turned out to be a very one sided contest with Castlelyons
sharpness and fitness really telling. From the 1st min Castlelyons ran
at their opponents with purpose and with some great interplay between
backs and forwards went in at half time leading 2-06 to 0-06.The
second half was a mirror image of the first and with Ballygarvan
tiring Castlelyons ran out winners on a score of 4-11 to 1-10.Some
very good performances by all that played ahead of the county final
against Youghal in Pairc Ui Rinn on Saturday night.

JB Hurling Championship

Castlelyons 0-12 Sarsfields 0-15

Castlelyons played Sarsfields in the JB hurling championship in
Carrignavar on Sat evening last. Playing against a strong breeze in
the first half Castlelyons found it extremely hard to score with only
2 points being scored in this half by R Feeney.Sars with the aid of
the strong wind dominated on the scoreboard and went in at half time
leading on a score of 0-08 to 0-02. Castlelyons playing with the wind
in the second half dominated play for the first 15 mins and with
points from R Feeney,D Sexton,D Tobin and C Cotter levelled the
match.Sars came more into the game after this and scored 7 second half
points(5 from frees) to lead again with Castlelyons reply being 3
points from R Feeney.Sars saw out the match and won by 3 points a
disappointing result for Castlelyons who hit a lot of wides and gave
away numerous scorable frees.
