Glenville GAA Club News

21 September, 2013

Blarney was in prime condition for the Minor Football East Region Final involving Glenville and Donoughmore in sunsplashed conditions last Saturday afternoon.
Glenville had a good start for this game when Adam Murphy scored the opening point. Donoughmore response was instant as they converted a free but Glenville in a sweping move down the field Kyle Cronin dispatched a great shot to the net to give us a four point lead in a low scoring tight opening 20 minutes. Donoughmore were treatening more at this stage and were rewarded when a ball wasnt cleared in the Glenville defence resulted in a penalty which was scored and two unanswered points left us a point behind at half time 1-4 to 1-3.
Glenville were unable to up the gears in the early stages of the second half as Donoughmore scored six on the spin. With the momentum firmly with Donoughmore ,Glenville were struggling in a number of areas but were rewarded with a lifeline with 10 mins to go with a goal. A point followed and we were within a score of Donoughmore and had numerous chances to further reduce the lead but our insessance on going for goals when points were the better option didnt help. Donoughmore kicked he last score and deservedly won out by a four point margin 1-12 to 2-5 and we congratulate them on their win. Glenville will be very disapointed with the outcome as its or third Minor championship final defeat in four years. We must also play Donoughmore in the league final and we also have the County Championship semi final as both Glenville and Donoughmore progress to the County series.

There was a Junior game on Monday night as Glenville and Delaneys played out a good pacy match in Delaneys 1-11 to 0-9 it ended. The championship will be on over the next few weeks as we play Aghada in the first round of the Junior C.
