Fundraising Draw A Fantastic Success.

 

Castlelyons GAA Club Fundraising Draws.


Fundraising for a club in the present financial environment is very
difficult and when Castlelyons GAA club decided to run a fundraising
draw no one could have forecasted what a fantastic success it would
be. This success was down to a dedicated group of sellers who worked
tirelessly and availed of every opportunity both at home and abroad to
sell cards. Synonymous  with the success of this ongoing initiative
has been the generosity of the sponsors who have been magnanimous in
their support.

These sponsors include McCarthy Insurance Group, Lagan Group, East
Cork Oil, Peddler's Rock Bar, Suit Distributors Cork, Bord Gais
Networks, Fitzgerald Bros, Metrology Systems and Services, The
Farrier's Bar, Glanbia and The Grand Hotel, Fermoy.

The initial draw took place in The Peddler's Rock on Saturday
September 14th which resulted in the following prizewinners.

 

1st prize                     Phil Hallahan Ballyneala.

2nd prize                    Declan Varner Coolagown.

3rd prize                    Aghern Golf Society.
4th prize                    Michael Burke.

5th prize                    Cal McCarthy Coole.

6th prize                    Alison Dooley Ballard.

Castlelyons 1-13  Kiltha Og  5-11

Castlelyons took on Kiltha Og in a minor hurling league semi final in
Castlelyons on Friday night last. R Bransfield and S Moroney had
Castlelyons first 2 points before Kiltha Og leveled the game with 2
points of their own after 10 mins. The game was a very even contest
for the rest of the half with R Bransfield scoring a goal for
Castlelyons before Kiltha Og replied with a goal to level the scores.C
O'Flynn ,R Bransfield and S Moroney all had points before half time to
leave Castlelyons leading by 1-07 to 1-06. Kiltha Og scored 2 goals in
the first 5 min of the second half to take control of the match and
built up a strong lead with S Moroney ,R Bransfield and M Cronin
scoring for Castlelyons.Kiltha Og controlled the game to the finish
with C O'Neill scoring the last 2 points for Castlelyons. A good
performance by a Castlelyons team who were very young with the panel
considerably reduced because of injuries. On this note the club wish
Michael Geary a speedy recovery as he faces surgery on his  cruciate
ligament which he damaged in the last minor championship game.

Castlelyons 2-18  Newtownshandrum  1-13

 

Castlelyons Intermediate hurling team played Newtownshandrum in a
challange match in Castletownroche on Saturday evening
last.Castlelyons started very well and built up a good score with
great interplay between backs and forwards to go in at half time
leading on a score line of 1-10 to 0-7.Second half followed on the
same lines and with some positional and personnell changes Castlelyons
kept up the pace of the game and ran out winners on a score of 2-18 to
1-13. This was a good run out against a very skillful team ahead of
the PIH semi final against Watergrasshill which is now due to be
played on Fri 27th September.
