All set for PI Hurling Championship


Castlelyons 3-16  Kildorrery 1-11

Castlelyons played Kildorrery in a hurling challenge on Sun last in
Kildorrery.On a dry bright day with hurling conditions excellent this
was a fast tough game which was what the team needed before their
championhip match on Sat next. Castlelyons started well with scores
from R O'Regan and C Spillane and the highlight being 3 very well
worked goals all scored by T McCarthy.Castlelyons led at half-time on
a score line of 3-04 to 1-07 after a vey good 30 mins.The second half
continued in the same vane with Castlelyons dominating the play and
ran out worthily winners on a score line of 3-16 to 1-11.Castlelyons
play Newcestown on Sat next in the Quarter final of the PI Hurling
championship having had some excellent training sessions and matches
in the past 2 months. A full squad is available for selection  and
everyone in the club wish the team and management best of luck for Sat
night .All supporters please come out and support the team with
trow-in at 8.00 pm in Pairc Ui Rinn as it is the second match of a
double header with Kilworth and Inniscarra playing before us.

Castlelyons   1-16  Erins Own  3-10


Castlelyons played Erins Own in the Minor Hurling Championship in
Rathcormac on Monday night last. Pitch conditions were excellent on a
dry fine night. Erins Own got off to a great start with a goal from
their first attack and soon after they added 3 more points before
Castlelyons had their first score a point from J O'Leary. Erins Own
dominated play for large portions of this half and led on a score of
2-08 to 0-06 at half time. Castlelyons started the second half with
renewed effort and scored the first 4 points from  K O'Leary, S
Moroney and A Spillane. When M Cronin  scored a  goal after 10 mins of
the half following great work from Castlelyons defense there was only
1 point between the sides.Erins Own scored a goal to stretch their
lead to 4 points but points from A Spillane ,S Moroney and K O'Leary
leveled the match . Erins Own got a free with time almost up but
failed to score and the ball was cleared up field when the final
whistle blew. Darkness was descending on the pitch at this stage
making it impossible to play extra time so the teams will have to do
it all over again on Sun next  in Rathcormac.

Castlelyons GAA Club Fundraising Draws.

The countdown is well and truly on for the two fundraising draws, both
of which will be staged in September. The total prize fund is in
excess of
2,000 Euro with the two top cash prizes being 500 Euro each. In all,
there are in excess of fifteen prizes to be raffled.

To date, the response to this fundraising  initiative has been
exceptional as befits a locally based draw with a prize-fund of this
scale. In excess of
70% of the projected number of lines are already sold and final
efforts are now in train to achieve a target which reflects in a very
positive manner on
the entire Castlelyons community.

Synonymous  with the success of this ongoing initiative has been the
generosity of the sponsors who have been magnanimous in their support.
sponsors include McCarthy Insurance Group, Lagan Group, East Cork Oil,
Peddlar's Rock Bar, Suit Distributors Cork, Bord Gais Networks,
Bros, Metrology Systems and Services, The Farrier's Bar, Glanbia and
The Grand Hotel, Fermoy.

Raffle Cards and lines are still available from any GAA Committee
Member, The Juvenile Club and the Camogie Club. Also, you are
requested to return
all completed cards to any member of the Adult Club.

The initial draw takes place in The Peddlar's Bar on Saturday
September 14th with the second draw scheduled for The Farrier's Bar on
Saturday September

recent bereavement.
