Cork V Clare 1972.

The first time I was at a Cork and Clare game was in 1972 when the sides met in the Munster Final in Thurles.
Cork had a tough campaign to get to that Provincial Final, having to play three games to qualify to meet Clare. Cork beat Waterford in the first round in the Athletic Grounds. That day the full forward line of Charlie Mac, Ray Cummins and Seanie O Leary scored  2  9 out of 3  16. We were on the road to Limerick then to play All Ireland champions Tipp in the semi final. The game ended 3  8 for each team with the inside forward line notching  3  7 and swashbuckling Mick Malone getting the other point. In the replay in Limerick Cork had two goals to spare 3  10 to   2  7. Our full forward line were confined to 6 points  between them with Gerald Mac and Malone raising the green flags. The Munster Final was on the last Sunday in July in Semple Stadium. It was my first ever Munster Final and I was hoping for a great game. On the day Cork were far too strong for Clare. Charlie Mac scored 2 9 a point more than the Clare team total of 2 8. Ray and Seanie got two goals each and Cork won by 6  18 to 2  8. I recall Seamus Durack and Jimmy Cullinan being outstanding for Clare. One thing is certain - it wont be so easy on Sunday week!
