Lisgoold News

01 June, 2009

Championship arrived with a bang last Sunday as old foes Cork and Tipp renewed their rivalry with the men in blue and gold coming out by three points. It was a bit disappointing considering Cork had enough chances to win the game, however manager Denis Walsh can be happy with a good team performance and lets hope they can build from here. From the flying highs of going through to the JAFC Semi-Final, Lisgoold were brought crashing to earth, by our near neighbours dungourney last Saturday night.

JHL Divison 3 May 25h

Lisgoold 0-4 (4)

Erins Own 1-16 (19)

Our second string were comprehensively beaten last Monday night in the division 3 league by a decent Erins Own third string. To be fair to both sides, neither team had their full panel for this game so it was really a write off from the start. Captain Owen Heagrty was leading by example and he started off brightly with a few scores in the first half, Kevin Loughin, Noel O'Riordan was excellent in defence considering they were under constant pressure from the Erins Own forwards. It was however a very sub-standard first half as Erins Own went in 1-5 to 0-2 ahead. Lisgoold were much in the game but in the second half the men from Glounthaune region took over with Mike Mulcahy and John Corcoran leading the way, to end up comfortable winners.

JHL Divison 2 May 30th

Lisgoold 1-12 [15]

Dungourney 2-14 [20]

Our chances of qualifying for the league final hang by a thread with this set-back againist a strong dungourney second team. To be fair our lads were not a full-strength and also with the majority of the season taken up by football up to last Friday week you can allow for some rustiness – but still it was no excuse. Dungourney albeit with a few expierneced players in their set-up were hungrier, quicker and wanted to win this game more. They played at times with a lot more passion and cuteness with John Cody, John Hickey and Brian Stack leading the way for the 'Duns'. Paudie Ryan was deputising in goals for Ciarán and may have pointed out that he is able for the number 1 jersey, Charles Smart was excellent at Centre back and also Killian Kingston played very well. This was a disappointing result and one can hope they can up the ante in the coming weeks before championship were they are due to play Bride Rovers at the end of this month.
