JAHC Semi Final
Castlemartyr 2-19 Carrigtwohill 2-09

Castlemartyr secured their place in the 2013 East Cork Junior A Hurling final after a 10 point win over Carrigtwohill in Rostellan on Friday night. On a perfect night for hurling and on a perfect pitch for hurling Castlemartyr played with determination from the first whistle and never looked like losing the match with a great display of teamwork and score taking. The foundation for the win was laid in the first half when we built up a comfortable lead of 1-12 to 0-06. Liam Martin opened our account after fielding a long ball and turning to slot over and shortly after came our first goal when Jimmy Smiddy got a touch to a Brian Lawton slideline cut to guide the ball to the net. The rest of the half was dominated by Castlemartyr with points form Barry Lawton, Brian Lawton, Barra O’Tuama, Eddie Clifford and a superb long range free from Adrian Bowens. Carrig only managed one point from play in this half with the rest of their scores coming from placed balls.

Castlemartyr started where they left off in the second half and again it was Liam Martin who would be the first to score. He won another ball in the air but this time he decided to turn his man and head straight for goal. The result was our second green flag as Liam slotted the ball passed the advancing Carrig keeper to extend our lead to 13 points. Carrig tried to get back into the game and 2 goals did close the gap but out lads kept taking their points to keep them at bay. Man of the match Barry Lawton score 5 second half points, three from play with Liam Martin brining his tally for the night to 1-2 after being set up for a point by Jimmy Smiddy.

Overall it was a great team performance by Castlemartyr who can now look forward to their third east Cork Final in 5 years. Here’s hoping the experiencing of winning in 2009 and 2010 will stand to them this year. We won’t know our opponents for a few weeks yet as Sarsfields are awaiting the winners of St. Ita’s and Midleton in the other semi final.
